Because there's f**k all bar someone saying "He'll hardly f**k off and play for Albania will he". A similar type comment that's probably posted under any dual national player these days. |

Ireland under 18's beat Sweden 3-1 in Croatia today. Mark O Mahony got two & Joe Gibbard got the other.
7 of the starting 11 had played first team football this season. Zefi was on bench - not sure if he got on.

O'Mahoney loves an aul goal when playing with Ireland. Will be 18 in January so assume we might see him move across to the UK.
They play Denmark this Friday and then Croatia on Monday. |

He was on Corks released list the other day so assume they will only get training compensation rather than a transfer fee? Ben Curtis was also on it from Pats, but i know he hasnt kicked on like Sam so maybe that's a genuine 'release'

Was barely getting a kick at Queen's Park recently. Should rewind his career further and head back to Sligo for next season.

I think Zefi has been completely overhyped on here, wouldn't hold out much hope for him, especially at Inter

Just the 4 goals for Zefi in his match for Inter the weekend which they won 4-3 yeah deffo overhyped. He obviously getting a rest as he only played 2 days ago.

Only thing worse than overhyping is complaining about overhyping. Any talk about him is pretty fair in the context of a young Irish player scoring and playing in our league and going to a huge club in Inter.

No one knows how the lad will turn out not least me! He’s clearly doing okay 4 goals in any game is impressive stuff!
The chances of Zefi getting a look in with Inter is of course slim to none! I wouldn’t say he’s overhyped don’t think he’s gotten any sort of hype compared to what Parrott got let’s say! Parrott Idah Connolly and Obafemi initially got a lot of hype as young attacking players breaking through something we didn’t have in donkeys years! Not even Ferguson has gotten the hype they got.

No doubting Zefi's ability but don't think lording it in under 18's football is the best for his development in the long term. Think Sam Curtis & Justin Ferizaj & Mark O Mahony look the best prospects from this group now - all three have been playing some senior football the past season.

This fascination with 17yos playing senior football is beyond me. Is it really better for a lad to be getting minutes for Cork in the Irish 2nd Division rather than training at an academy with one of the biggest clubs in Europe? Heck sure Trant Kone Doherty should have jusy stayed at Derry. These lads are kids, learning the game. Dont see how one can proclaim Curtis, Ferizaj and O'Mahoney are now better prospects than Zefi or Doherty on foot of some game time in Ireland. Bizarre.

Agreed. Each young player is different and in some occasions it will help them to stay at their boyhood clubs but getting world class coaching at 17 years old is so valuable. Sure he is extremely unlikely to play for Milan but they are likely to have good links for loans or the reputation that he will get a decent move. I remember seeing about how highly rated Devoy and Burns were but now are both over 20 making little impact in a struggling league 1 side and they had lots of senior game time in the LoI. To me O'Mahoney looks like a typical kid that was bigger than his peers so looks good in youth football due to this. He has a good ireland youth scoring record but until that translates to senior football I won't get too excited. Curtis and Ferizaj look decent but again haven't shown that they are anything much more than sqaud player in the LoI or the rumoured switches to big academies yet. We will see how all of them develop in the next few years.

They can learn the game at Irish clubs too..a pro license is the same in Ireland as it is in Italy..of course that the facilities are light years ahead but I think Curtis & Ferizaj playing in first team football in the LOI & Europe is more beneficial too them in the long term than playing an Under 18 academy game against Sheffield Utd or Spal.
