Never had the 100 votes. Less than 60 of the worst MPs in the party-the nutters, the sychophants and the gissa-job merchants. Could not have formed a government even if he’d made the cut and won a vote of party members. Issued a self-obsessed statement that like his resignation speech was all about him. Left his Parliamentary supporters high and dry. So-all in all, a pretty good weekend.

Could the UK’s new prime minister be named today? Country’s third PM in a year could be announced today but process could be drawn out until Friday Tory leadership contest –. |

A good day for politics in Britain with the Conversatives putting Rishi Sunak into 10 Downing Street.
I can't see him winning 200 seats at the next general election.

He’s probably lucky it didn’t go to a run-off. The Tory membership was stupid enough to elect Truss last time out and if Bojo had been on the ballot this time, chances are he would have won it and totally destroyed the party in the process. Mordaunt wanted it to go to a vote and would have fancied her chances as a buxom English rose appealing to a bigoted and xenophobic electorate. She’ll be sick as a parrot at falling short of the necessary 100 nominations -she couldn’t get the endorsement of the ERG, which was split after their puppet Truss had inflicted so much reputational damage-and not being offered one of the big Cabinet posts by Sunak. Plenty of potential for more ruinous in-fighting when Sunak’s honeymoon period is over, which it soon will be.

Good summary of the Tory budget.
Reacting to the budget, Genevieve Morris, head of corporate tax at Blick Rothenberg, said: “It’s a Budget that boils the frog. The continued freezing of tax thresholds means most people won’t notice it directly as the temperature increases, and so won’t leap out of the water. They’ll simply discover years down the line that they boiled.
“Social rents capped, but no help for the poorest people living in private rented accommodation where the market is completely unregulated and increases in interest rates etc. will simply be passed on to tenants. Yet when they can’t afford to pay and lose the roof over their head there simply won’t be any social housing to accommodate them.” Ahead of the statement, Liberal Democrat treasury spokesperson Sarah Olney labelled it a “cost of chaos budget”. “Everyone’s being forced to pay the price for this Conservative government’s incompetence.” |

England increasingly looks like some kind of economic experiment. Like after the coup in Chile, when the "Chicago Boys" ran that country.

Britain has two massive economic issues that need sorted but are not allowed to be spoken about by politicians or journalists. Brexit has harmed the economy massively and London has laundered billions of pounds of dodgy Russian money over the last 12 years which has now dried up and is being withdrawn from the economy.
I'm convinced that if there was another brexit vote that leave would still win.

Agree those issues not spoken about and Brexit would still get voted in. A lot of people in UK dumbed down and incapable of having a conversation unless it involving love island, I’m a celebrity, football or xfactor. Try talk politics or economics and the ignorance is unreal. It’s why the tabloid rags find it so easy manipulate voters.

Recent polling suggests that buyers’ remorse has kicked in big time on Brexit and that it would not be supported in a referendum now. There have been no discernible benefits from it and numerous ongoing self-inflicted detriments. Labour has been shy of raising the issue , preferring to sit back and watch the Government implode, but sooner or later it has to be addressed if more crippling economic damage is to be curtailed. Re dirty Russian money, there was a report on that a while back that Bojo suppressed.

Very true other than the likes of the journos in the Guardian Mirror and James O'Brien at LBC the media in the UK is in the Tories pocket sadly and far too many people believe the right wing nonsense.

Kier Starmer would frustrate the hell out of you - Doing his best to make himself electable to floating Tory voters by basically trying to become a Tory.

The centre ground was always going to be part of Starmer’s Labour. Losing more seats was not an option and they have to eat into the Tory lead in order to get them out.

I think a move slightly back towards the centre was understandable as I don't think Corbyn was ever likely to be elected in the UK but does the following sound like the centre?
- Draping themselves in the Union Jack - Talking about a public and private partnership in the NHS - Now using the slogan "taking back control" - Their policy on immigration not being that different from the Tories.
