At the moment the swing is too great, but the numbers would undoubtedly rebalance to an extent that the unassailable majority will be obliterated. At that point it is about the current opposition finding a route to a coalition.

Still the PM for the moment which seems a bit crazy. Never once said the word resign in his speech. He’s going to hang on in the hope that some big world event happens and they won’t be able to change leader.

Dominic Cummings has warned that he will not give up and will inflict as yet unimaginable damage if left in place. This could change before the day is out. I got the impression that he was ad-libbing rather than sticking to the script in that graceless and toe-curling speech and moves may already be underway to appoint a caretaker such as Raab. Starmer has already threatened a motion of no confidence in the Commons if he is not ousted and that would further divide the Tories if such a thing is possible. All rollicking good fun.

It’s worth a few quid on a bet that he’ll still be there by the end of the year.

If labour get in with lib Dems next time then the introduction of PR will change the face of British politics and for the better.

Can't see it happening - All they could do would be to have another referendum again and I doubt it would pass.

Proportinal representation. Its what we have in Ireland. Well a form of it called PR STV single transferable vote. Being nearly 60 and not knowing that is shocking. Nearly as bad as not seeing the Godfather. Must be a yacht club thing.

All depends on labour getting behind it this time. At the moment labour, lib dems and greens vote share is hovering around 60 to 65% with the tories on circa 30%. That's a sizable share for progressive minded parties.

People won't vote on this along party lines though - I hope I'm wrong but I think it would have little chance of getting through.

Starmer has ruled out a deal with the SNP. This may prove unwise but his calculation is no doubt influenced by Labour needing to do a lot better than their current one seat in Scotland, hence a combative approach there in the next general election is likely and he also won’t want to be pilloried in the Tory press as a puppet of Nicola Sturgeon. There are arguments for and against PR-it has not been an unqualified success in countries that have it, with the likes of small fascist parties for instance gaining disproportionate influence-but the UK electorate does seem to have copped on collectively to tactical voting, ie going for Labour or Lib Dems depending on which is stronger in the constituency and most likely to beat the Tory candidate.

SNP party policy since the seventies has been to support PR and we use it in Holyrood and Scottish council elections. Can't say that I have ever shed any tears for the demise of Labour's branch office in Scotland after the way they exploited us for about fifty years, and I'm not the only one. Coincidently, one of the most senior Orangemen in Scotland is currently a serving Labour councillor in South Lanarkshire. I genuinely would be willing to consider voting for a new, refreshed Labour Party in an independent Scotland but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. We do actually vote the same way as Labour do on a lot of social issues at Westminster and there is some behind the scenes co-operation that goes on particularly with younger MP's from both parties.
