Meanwhile, according to the Belly Telly, there are a number of English teams in for him, EPL and Championship:

Crawley(!) have also made a £60k bid - decent money for them, no doubt on the recommendation of Wee Warren Feeney (Asst.Mgr. to Harry Kewell)

Somebody said Brendan Rodgers was impressed by him after the Celtic ties, too.

As N.I. have more or less guaranteed a playoff spot in their group barring a complete collapse, have they any chance of being seeded in the draw or is it more likely they'll be unseeded?
Wings? They're only the band The Beatles could have been.

They are highly likely to get 2nd and should do enough for a playoff although may need a win in their last 3 as well as one over San Marino to be a best 2nd.

They are currently 5th of 8.  Catching Iceland/Croatia or Sweden is possible.

FIFA haven't yet specified when the playoff draw will take place.  The October rankings are due on October 19th which would be very late for the draw.  A cynic might suggest they will wait and see which works best for the bigger nations.

It is likely Northern Ireland will have a higher ranking in September than in October.  Germany home and Norway away are tricky games in October.  They should beat San Marino and have a great chance of beating the Czechs in Belfast.  I would think they have  a better chance of being seeded if the draw is before October 19th and the September rankings are used.

I assume you mean a 'best second' as in be seeded for the draw as I don't think there's automatic qualification for the best second.

No i mean a best 2nd as in 8 of the 9 2nd placed teams get a playoff.  One misses out.  There is still a chance it could be us or NI.  It is more likely to be Montenegro or Denmark at the moment.

Edgar reckons our chances of being the worst second are 7.1% whereas NI's chance is 7.8%.

He reckons they have a 15.3% chance of being 2nd and seeded in the playoffs.  This is based on the October rankings being used.

NI are currently second in the table of second-placed teams (ie excluding results against the sixth place)

Italy 4-10
NI 5-10
France 5-10
Iceland 5-10
Portugal 4-9
Slovakia 5-9
Greece 5-9
RoI 5-9

Montenegro 5-7

The table would indicate NI are unlikely to be worst 2nd.  It is tight and a draw v Czechs may guarantee 2nd spot.  However it may not guarantee a playoff.  It probably depends on the Montenegro/Denmark group although RoI/Wales/Serbia/Austria could also be worst 2nd.

Seeding is based on the FIFA rankings not on the rankings table above.  NI are currently 5th of the 8 likely 2nd placed teams.  Spain/Italy, Portugal/Switzerland are guaranteed to be seeded barring sensational results.  France/Sweden/Holland is  a possibility and the Croatia/Iceland group is the best bet.  Ukraine or Turkey could even come through there.

Aye, the eliminated team in both 2014 and 2010 had 10 points in the countback.

Exactly. Have a pool of players with less ability than us yet they get the very best out of each and every one of them, which is something that we cannot do. Some of our lads really deserve a good kick in the nuts.
