James McCarthy played for Hamilton Accies along with Alex Neil for several years ( 2006-2009 ) having made his debut for them at the age of 15. Neil was there for 10 years, the last three as player manager, while McCarthy went on to PL and international success. He might be a very effective signing for Sunderland if they do depart from their current transfer policy and bring him in. He might prefer a move like that rather than being a bit part player at Celtic under the Ange regime.

Whilst its good to have Ellis Simms I would still have liked Broadhead too as I think we need another striker and ideally two, particularly if SAFC are going to play two up top and we don't have any other out and out forwards to cover. |

Both sides much changed as expected. Young Donegal player Caden Kelly on the bench for the senior team for the first time.

Go on the Dubs.
Speaking of Dubs looking forward to seeing a good Dublin man over for the match tomorrow and a SAFC season card/ticket holder.
The Irish Sunderland fans at Bristol City - Now, that was an away day! When the Irish Black Cats assembled in Dublin airport at 4am on Saturday morning they could only have dreamed of how good... |

Sunderland AFC can confirm Dan Ballard has suffered a fractured foot. The defender sustained the injury during Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Queens Park Rangers and was subsequently replaced with nine minutes on the clock at the Stadium of Light. Additional scans and consultations are set to take place before Ballard begins a period of rehabilitation, with the injury set to keep the summer signing out of action for the ‘foreseeable future’. “Dan has a small fracture in his foot,” explained Head Coach Alex Neil. “He’s going to be out for the foreseeable future, but it is difficult to put a timescale on it” He continued: “We have a few other scans to undertake – and a couple of specialists to see – to fully understand the severity of it, but that process is underway to ensure he then receives the necessary treatment to get him back as soon as we can. “It is disappointing for Dan and it is disappointing for us, as he has been a great signing show far, albeit we have only played a few games, and showed real promise and potential. “It is a setback for Dan, but equally he will come back and hopefully be stronger for it.”
