I wonder did Roy Keane know this was coming, and that is why he left when he did?

Quite right!

I have always said that one of Martin's greatest managerial qualities is persuading Chairmen to give him a big, fat transfer budget (and salary), even when they can't really afford it.

Indeed, the only time he walked out of a big job prematurely was at Norwich, where the notably parsimonious Robert Chase refused to give in to his demands, and/or reneged on his promises (believe whomever you like):
https://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwich-city/chase-breaks-his-silence-on-city-1-543791

So that if he did get as far as an interview with Ashley, I imagine it wouldn't get beyond the opening two sentences:

Now how much of a transfer budget are you going to give me, Mr. Chairman? And why are Security now manhandling me out of the door before I've even had the chance to sit down properly?"

Player revolt led to the sacking.

It was a player revolt which saw Karanka gone, from what I’ve gathered they’ve observed MONs training methods and formations - The exact same dross he did for us - And they’ve basically turned around and said fook him.

Keano’s resignation may actually be a finger to MON, no bad words said about Roy, for once, he might of foreseen this coming and may want the Forest job

sh*te training and sending the players out with no clear instructions.  Glad to see he is learning from his mistakes.   MON the great motivator (his only plus) seems to be a kranky old fart falling out with players these days.

I'm sure more stories will emerge.

Marco tardelli for the job. Out of work since he conned Irish football out of a couple of million.

I always thought CS was TJ!
Greed has won, big finance has won. Whatever small role elite clubs still play in the local communities from which they grew is dwarfed now by their position as global brands.

Appoint a former Sunderland managermisfit? Should go down well.

Even at Nottingham Forest, long misty eyed tales about Brian Clough have a shelf life of about 6 months these days. And the euphoria of great nights against Derby County now last even less.

The man is only good enough for the pundit circuit nowadays, telling everyone whose shorts he wants to swap with. To gales of laughter in the studio.

+1. I thought it was his alter ego who he had debates about MON with.

Hopefully he will be regaling the ITV studios with anecdotes about young Doherty and big Duffy during Euro 2020. I can't see where else he can go after this apart from the bottom half of the championship or Scotland outside of Celtic. Very doubtful he has the hunger to do that.
