It's not ever going to happen but it's worth noting that Mourinho's working with a different budget and different list of targets than he'd have at any English club he's ever been at.
They're supposedly close to signing Maitland-Niles and it's not like he'd get within an arse's roar of the Tottenham team either. Italian football would probably suit Doherty. He has the kind of agent who could make something like this happen so it's not necessarily the Mourinho link that should be looked at here.

Matthew needs to concentrate on his studies for now. If he is meant to be a footballer when he grows up it wont pass him by. For now let the youngster progress at his own pace.

Spurs fans have long ago made their minds up on him, so it doesn't really matter what he does in their eyes, positives will be ignored and negatives will be jumped on. There's no rebuilding his reputation there that I can see, probably best for all parties if he moves on now.
