No idea, but I read McElaney saying how much the club is a joke and run poorly too only the other day.. from day to day stuff, to players not getting paid. Was making comparisons to Bray.

Club career beginning to resemble that of Anthony Stokes, without hitting the moderate highs that Stokes managed.

Hope he swallows his pride and comes home to the LOI.
He was close to Dundalk previously, maybe he'll head there to replace Adorjan. |

He was linked with Peterborough earlier in the season, I don't know if that's still a runner though. The form he showed last year is far too good to be heading back to Ireland, he's well able for L1.

I think he'd be better placed for his future by playing for a top LOI side for 18 months or so rather than playing for Peterborough

Why? Peterborough always near the top of L1, much higher standard than the LOI.

He is probably able for higher, ability here isn't the question though and it appears to becoming something of a familiar story. I can't help but think that the fame, especially for these Irish lads, isn't helping. That isn't to say they have different personalities , it is just that lads like Byrne and Clifford are really well known in Ireland before they have ever done anything of note. They are interviewed by national papers and their progress followed by the media with far more interest than if they came from a larger country or one that isn't so obsessed with English football. As soon as they drop down it is mentally a long way back. In Clifford's case, he came home too late to revitalise his career, it might do Byrne no harm to come back now, show some of his talent and get some grounding. Pulling his Twitter wouldn't do him any harm either.

It does seem to happen a lot to really promising Irish footballers in the last 10 years. The most talented players of recent times have nearly all shown terrible attitude and fallen by the way side by the time they have reached 25. Lads like Gibson, Stokes, Ireland and now Byrne . All have been possibly the most talented young players we have seen in this country in there late teens early 20s since the likes of Keane and Duff and all have one similar trait. Shocking attitude.

Mainly the same reasons why it helped Towell, Maguire, Burke. Surrounded by homes comforts and playing a style of football (if he were to be taken on by a top LOI side) that suits him down to the ground. Being the a big fish in a small pond whilst surrounded by family and home comforts seems everything this lad needs. Agree L1 is a higher standard, but it's pretty relative. I can see why you'd think it would be a better move but I think you have to think of the human aspect and not just the short term footballing aspect. |

The fact that Oldham never really came forward and specified what Byrne had actually done wrong would suggest to me that the new manager simply wanted to assert his authority by making an example of him. The fans seemed to be on Byrne's side in any case.

I had a look at the Oldham forums and the fans are kind of oblivious as to what has happened.
I think he that he tackled a player, injured him, and the manager believes it was deliberate and wanted him to apoligise for it. It wasn't deliberate and Byrne won't apologies for it. |

He does seem to have a bad attitude but this seems more a case of Oldham being a joke. Was Anthony Gerrard not released for the same incident? McEleney compared Oldham to Bray which says it all really. Even when Byrne seemed to be doing well enough in the beginning for Oldham, Wellens was criticising him. He seems the type that needs a manager to put his arm around him anyway.
