He played on the same team as my nephew at St.Kevin's Boys. I saw him play a few times when he was there and it was no surprise when he made the move to England.

Watched Jack at Kennedy Cup in UL a few years ago.  He was the outstanding player of the tournament despite his small stature at that time.  Fair dues to him.

he sounds the best under 20 player for ireland.  is there any other guy as good as him?

There are two irish at Liverpool  McLaughlin and Flanagan, but they are full backs, they seem really good prospects

Sorry to go off topic but Javier, I have a quick query for you. My pal is trying to convince me to go to Argentina for the WC next year. I knows it's in Brazil but that will be way too expensive. I've spent a lot of time in Argentina and love it so the idea is appealing to me.
Do you reckon this will be a good idea? Will you meet me for a pint to discuss the merits of Bielsa vs Martino, Maradona vs Messi, Argentinian women vs Colombian women?

Sure, he can go to Molly Malone nearby San Telmo quartier(neighbourhood), so you dont feel homesick.  Sad Eire is not gonna make it to Brazil, thanks Trapattoni's abusive panache.  It was the end of the road for him.

McLaughlin from the North and Flanagan is English.

But with the two Byrne's at City and Utd and Lawlor in goal for City, there is some decent talent obviously, lets just home they aren't another Clifford.

Ok but if go to the WC in Brazil and you will hit down Buenos Aires, before going to Rio or Sao Paulo you have to conquer the vast Patagonia, as Antoine de Saint-Exupéry did,  you can catch the feeling down there like a pilgrim wandering around a bit as Pope Francis says.  You can charge batteries witj mother nature down there to experience Brazil after

yeah he's only 17. But what's strange is he has already played for the U19s twice, in August in a couple of friendlies against Norway. Came on as a sub in the first game and then played the 90 a few days later. Wasn't included in the squad for last month's games against Slovenia so perhaps Doolin decided on his squad for the competitive games after the Slovenia games and just decided that he didnt need Byrne in the squad. Hopefully, that's all it is, never know with Doolin tho....

Agree 100%. I think what happened to Clifford was a real dose of realism to all of us! Hopefully Byrne won't go that way.

Alas being a top youth and in and around the first team is no indicator of your chances of making it in English football these days bizarre as it may sound and progress is now down to luck as much as anything.  Compare Clifford to two other Chelsea youth's Sinclair and McEachran.  Sinclair went to a Swansea side where people were still scratching their heads at Rodgers appointment as boss and being tipped for relegation.  One year later he's in the Premier League and then off to City.  McEachran has been raved about for a while now and while still only 20 he didn't do much at Swansea and I don't remember any rave reviews last season at Middlesboro.  At Watford he's only played 3 games so far.  Look at Cunningham, rave reviews at City, decent move to Bristol City but now in League 1!

Another bit about him here in the Independent

Encouraging to see that the Man City academy is heading down a more local/'home nations' route. As it stands, the current u-19s are from all over the world, so Byrne must have something special to be at the heart of their success. Very competitive environment.

Delighted to see Byrne doing well, a loan move to the continent may be the best outlet for him imo. Belgium or Holland would be ideal.

Jack byrnes two goals against bayern. 1.37 and 1.56

Dont know what to make of him as he seems to excel when playing for man city, regularly scoring and getting assists while he hasnt really impressed for ireland underage anytime ive watched him.  Hopefully he can get a loan next season to see if he can set up to senior football

Yet another pointless and irksome headline. What exactly has he given Martin O Neill to think about? That we have a decent young fella coming through? That he may, or may not, fulfill his potential? I would imagine that I would give him more to think about, if I asked him to choose between custard creams and bourbons.

And that is great. I really hope he fulfills his potential. We have had enough Cliffords and Partridges ( not a jibe at our dear leader), but if MON starts using youth competitions to call up players to the senior squad, I would want a different manager appointed. I imagine that newspaper would feel similar.

Which is the problem I have with the headline.
PS: I don't care if the chap is bechamel, as long as Byrne is a good footballer

Yes, central midfielder. Highlights of the game here:

Jack's goal at about 1:18. Also makes a goal-saving challenge at about 0:20.

Hopefully him and lawlor can get a loan next season to a league one or championship team. There is so much talent in citys youth teams its scary so it will be very hard for either of them to come out and even challenge for a place on citys first team squad.

Another goal for Byrne from midfield, we are in bad need of someone who has that knack for scoring goals from midfield, Cleary had a goal disallowed for Liverpool and O'Hanlon played aswel.

Another one from outside the box, 6 now only 1 behind the top scorer and he is a central midfielder.

His goal scoring stats for a midfielder are something else.

This guy is a top prospect. Reality is its unlikely he will make it at City with the way they sign marquee players but that`ll be their loss because he has a big future in the game.
That's him speaking in an interview, very impressive seems level headed.

Himself and Connoly were the 2 best on the pitch for me. Mcavoy looks a good player, full of pace. Back 4 was solid enough. Striker Wilkinson (can't remember his name held the ball up well but Andorra were tough to break down. One Centre half just kept smashing the ball away anywhere during the 2nd half like the old John Smith's ad. Unlucky not to score at least another 2 goals

Is training with citys first team and is rumoured to be in contention for a place in the match day squad before the season is out. Hopefully city win their next few matches and secure top 4 which will allow some young players to get a chance.
Along with grego cox and grealish it would be excellent to have another u21 players breaking through into a premier league first team squad
