Lads this lad is just a League 1 player. Don't really get why this forum is constantly hyping him. When he does it at least at Championship level then I would understand it but not for a team that is constantly in the bottom of League 1. Sure even Eoin Doyle is pulling up trees there at the moment.

It's posts like this that make people bang their heads off walls. Jack Byrne was criticized from all angles for doing nothing at Blackburn and then later at Wigan, this on the back of a good season in Holland. Now Jack decided to reignite his career or risk it altogether (slightly dramatic on my part) by going to Oldham just to play week in week out, according to reports he has been pulling up trees for a struggling club and is enjoying his football. Are there any losers here or am I missing something? From where I'm sitting, Jack is winning by playing well, Oldham won tonight with him getting rave reviews and whenever a young Irish player is doing well then it can only be a good thing for Ireland. Stop with the common sense and football logic GD, the YBIG genuises have decided that this lad is no good and has a bad attitude. Some utter fools on here lately. |

Needs to be tested in championship. Seems a cut above L1 for sure.

I'm not sure, he has certainly done well over a short period of time. I think it is a bit early to be saying what he is or isn't too good for, but it is great he is starting to hit form. It wasn't actually meant as pedantry, or as a dig at the player, but a dig at the sham of a competition he scored in.

Jack Byrne should stay at Oldham and play every week, hopefully his deal gets extended.
Would love to see him play the whole season there, then if he impresses Cook in pre-season next summer he could very well be in a Championship team again.

Another MOTM for Jack today against his old club Blackburn Rovers, in a one nil win.

Very poor performance from Jack. Some poor passing and blamed everyone else. Very petulant and ended up getting booked for complaining to the ref from a clear foul. Replaced by Paul Green which summed it up. I do think though there is the makings of a very good player there though. With better players around him and in better conditions he might have looked better

Played a part in the first goal, so he can’t have done all that badly:
http://m.bbc.com/sport/football/41646911 ... and he was subbed off in the 87th minute! Hardly a disgrace Edited by DeclanDaly - 25 Oct 2017 at 2:11am |

Didn't say he was a disgrace. A rare poor performance I believe. Could see that attitude is a problem as he was mouthing at the ref constantly and being very petulent

The reverse was also a problem, one goal against PSV and he was the next Liam Brady, and if you dared suggest he might not be you were deemed a pessimist and that he must have had intercourse with your girlfriend! The reality is, and let's be clear here, he has some talent and also an attitude problem and needs to concentrate on removing the latter to show more of the former. I think Oldham have made a good appointment in Wellens and hopefully he gets the best out of Jack, but we had people screaming for him to be in the senior squad based solely on reputation and a couple of decent performances for a team of, arguably, a lower standing than he is currently with. |
