Considering how light we are in that DM position, McCarthy should be entertaining all comers. That said, I always saw Arter as more of a #8 than a #4, probably more a like for like replacement with Hendrick.
You asked if I'd be anyone from history, fact or fiction, dead or alive:
I said "I'd be Tony Cascarino, circa 1995"

Clean slate under McCarthy but jury is still out for me on Arter.

Hopefully he can be an effective player for us but he hasn't really shown it so far tbh.
Wings? They're only the band The Beatles could have been.

Hendrick hasn't done much since Euro 2016 (albeit with slight improvement since McCarthy) yet he walks into our team.

Nobody should be judged based on MON's tenure.

He can definitely do a job, just depends where. Arter at his best, I'd have him in ahead of Hendrick in centre mid. Don't fancy him as defensive mid.

Nobody should be judged based on MON's tenure. MON can't be blamed for everything. Players have to take responsibility for their own performances even leaving the Roy Keane fiasco aside. I'm not having a pop at him but Arter hasn't set the world on fire since he's come into the national set up. Hopefully under a new manager he can improve and be more effective for us.

Did an interview with off the ball and it does not sound like he will be included in the final 23, has a problem with his ankle and wants to rest it during to international break. He says he will be involved come October. I like Harry but never seemed 100% committed to Ireland.

I have always thought this and can understand it, but he should do the decent thing and retire from it if it isn't for him.

Definitely questions regarding his commitment flying about especially as there are important qualifiers on the horizon.

As hes going under the knife I say maybe cut him a bit of slack. It's not like he's giving it the old 'I'm focussing on club football' excuse like Bamford.
