What about Souness? He seems to have mellowed out. He’s been out management but he has a ton of experience as a dressing room leader, likes Ireland and knows about us from his time working here. Think he was interested in the past.
Could maybe team up someone younger as assistant e.g. Steven Reid. Edited by t_rAndy - 11 Sep 2023 at 11:25pm |

This for me. A nice guy never works for the Irish senior side. Although they hung on too long, look at the lads who actually had success with us - Jack, Mick, Trap & MON. All were fairly ruthless.

FFS Souness. Why not get in Andy Gray as his assistant. How long has Souness been out of management?

It’s left field but more so people talking about old managers like Raneri etc. if you are going in that direction then way not someone like Souness? I don’t think it would be the worst in the world. Though his Rangers background would be an issue for some.
Now I’m am not advocating him myself as a first choice or close to It. I do feel the FAI are going to want someone who will work closely with the director of football and the underage system so most likely someone living in Ireland a lot of the time. Duffer probably would have fit the mould had he not had his falling out with them. Edited by t_rAndy - 11 Sep 2023 at 11:40pm |

Shouldn't and won't be left near it for multiple reasons including couldn't be depended upon to jump ship in some sort of hissy fit the first time some bit of real pressure is on.

Didn’t Carsley have brief but successful spell managing Brentford? Couldn’t commit long term due to family reasons but fans/ board wanted him to stay on. I have a feeling he’s not/ or at least wasn’t interested in full time club management.

Shels are awful to watch. They've a few creative players that they rely on to do something off the cuff; Moylan, Farrell, Smith to a lesser extent. However, as he said himself, his budget meant he had to recruit a lesser standard of player, and with the takeover, his style may change as he brings in better players. On the other hand, his teams are extremely hard to beat and they've drawn far more games than the other teams. His players clearly love playing for him, and he seems to know how to make his players ruthless b@stards (in the nicest sense of the word), something really lacking in our players. He also knows how to create a headline. He made his feelings clear on the FAI. He will be in consideration for the job down the line, just not now. Would be shocked if the FAI looked to the LoI again straight away, given that the current one has failed. Bradley nowhere near getting the job either. He'd be Kenny 2.0 IMO as he's shown in Europe, he's unable to be more pragmatic or change system when needed.

Some interesting points made in this thread. Do we trust the FAI to get this right?

Some people seem to have a huge amount of faith in the FAI - they must be leak proof if this is indeed the case and previous history would suggest that whatever they might be, they certainly arent leak proof. I hope youre right though, I dont want to see this drag on interminably!
