Don’t shift the goalposts (don’t matter what Travers’ status was in September 2021). When Kenny was forced into a keeping decision in March 2021 Westwood had been back in the Wednesday team, while Travers had been brought back as back-up at Bournemouth from his loan at Swindon. So Travers wasn’t playing higher or more regularly at the time. In fact, Travers played half the football at club level that term. After Serbia, Kenny could have stubbornly stuck by Travers or take the risk of playing a young, lower league keeper. In spite of the Luxembourg result, Bazunu emerged with credit. That wouldn’t necessarily have happened if he wasn’t selected.

There were different roads that could have been taken at the time.

These are turning like a U.S Republican/Democratic politics thread with all the back & forth with this sh1te talk about cults, Friday night gatekeepers etc etc.. Very Twitteresq from what I remember of that cesspit platform.

I was behind Kenny but can't see anyway forward for him now unless something drastic happens with the qualifiers(which I can't see). This whole "Red/Blue" point scoring is ridiculous.

Irish fans trying to get one up on eachother due to a poor reign says it all.

Bit like the Old Firm these days. The football is dreadful and the competition is so limited they have to find other ways of competing. Football is unfortunately riddled with this. We’re not in contention for anything, and staring down the barrel of early elimination from Euro 2024. But ho-hum, some internet debates were won along the way.

Its social media driven in my opinion. When you're at games, home or away, you dont hear anything like that.

Agreed!

On here it’s also toxic during match day and the days that follow! It’s never like that at the matches, the internet does bring out the weirdos.

Kenny is on thin ice for sure but what do we want? There isn't a mananger in the world who could get us to finish in the top 2 in the euro group so write that off. We've certainly got a new identity under Kenny where we're confident on the ball, bringing in a Mick to take us back to hoofball to try pox a draw against France or Netherlands would set us back 10 years.
Here we go again

Camp apocalypse draws ever closer.   The Branch Kennians will go down in flames with their leader at the FAI headquarters as the tanks roll in to get them to leave the compound.

Its a deluded LOI thing and that is coming from a LOI supporter.   The LOI is an extremely poor league and nowhere near becoming this ''feeder league'' for the national team and in all likelihood never will be.

Its a league where players can barely earn a living wage, where stadiums are kips with tiny capacities.   A league the public have little or no interest in. The league is broke.  No money. Playing for a pittance of prize money.  Rovers average 5000 attendance and they have the best stadium and are the most successful team in the league.  Look at other clubs such as UCD, Athlone, Drogs etc..and look at their attendances.  The public here just dont buy into the LOI.   We are not a footballing country in rural areas which makes up the majoirty of our landmass.

Branch Kennians are clinging onto this deluded notion that we will get to some dream date in the future where we can pick players from the LOI for the national team coached by an Irish LOI manager (such as Kenny) and compete at a good level in international football.

The LOIs recent best teams and best players have been failures.  Richie Towell, Sean Maguire et al..
Dundalk and Rovers were next to useless in Europe and couldn't compete with bang average teams from leagues from Norway and other such countries.

Our population is small with an apathetic public towards LOI and too many other sports competing  against each other.

Our only real success in international football came when we had English managers and English players.  Unless billions is pumped into the game here (never going to happen) then the league is always going to struggle.

At best we will have a better standard of league with slightly more crowds with better academies and hopefully be able to produce and export a few more players who might be able to play at a decent level. Irish international players will always come from foreign leagues because the standard of opposition here is so poor.

LOI is equivalent of non league in England.

Here's another fact.  How many Irish born managers have managed at a decent level in any league worldwide?

David O'Leary was the last and I can barely think of anyone else.  We cant even produce managers never mind players.

To be fair Trap it's impossible to have any sort of discussion when you keep using terms like "Branch Kennyians" or whatever it is.

You're clutching at straws naming Kenny! A 1 year unsuccessful  stint at Dunfermline where he got sacked
