Very presumptive of you, YTM.
If Cannon thinks he has a chance at an England call up sometime, good for him. Born and raised there.
If not, and he actually wants to try and get a game with us, fair enough.
I'm saving my excitement quota for when we get an attacking midfielder that gets us out of our seats.

Maybe. But something felt off about the whole thing going back to the squad announcement for the training camp in England. First he had tonsillitis (Kenny told us), then he was injured (Crawford told us). Somewhere during that period he went to a Coldplay gig. It just didn't add up and because of that it's no surprise to anyone following this for the last week that it now looks like he's leaving the Ireland setup.

If players are turning down callups managers need to just come out and say that. Otherwise they leave themselves open to being made to look either very naive or very foolish, as has happened here.

Interesting that the report is coming from the Sun if he's Scouse, albeit an Evertonian.

Have we ever had a player that " needed time to think about it"  who then picked us?

This is why the FAI infrastructure plan is important. We want to produce our own future talent here without having to rely on any outside factors

I agree, the filth of rice and grealish have made it easier for uncommited players to follow their path

Didn’t he state in Match that he was committed to us?

Deleting the references to all his Ireland games on Instagram is an ominous sign. He's likely been advised to that for damage control. I know someone already pointed out there is still stuff on twitter, but young lads don't really use that as much. All about the gram baby!

If he's going to go, better he does it now after 1 under 21 cap. We can never allow another Rice situation to develop. I'm sure the truth will come out eventually but at the end of the day we'll always be vulnerable to lads like this switching.

Move on

Nothing from Cannon himself. Crawford gave an interview where he stated that Cannon was committed to us.

Kenny and Crawford are right not to make it public if if Cannon is (a) considering England, or (b) deceiving them or they suspect he might but aren't 100%.

You can have plenty of criticisms of Kenny but this is a ridiculous stick to beat him with.

How's he's brought players in and has maintained a good relationship with them despite overall results has been one of his strengths. Even the Manning situation where we all suspected there was some personal animus between doesn't appear to be the case at least from Kenny's end.

Kenny has no control over what Cannon will do and good riddance to him if he wants to piss off over to England.

Agree with all that above. It’s easier to be a bit more relaxed now we have Ferguson too.

One thing that is notable about Kenny’s squads is that there never seems to be pull outs once they are named.

In the O’Neill and particularly Trap eras we’d often get 5/6 pullouts per squad.

In the lads defence he played a friendly last month. Beyond that it’s not like he’s been playing for us all the way up.

He would likely get into Englands U21 squad currently. He also may not play for England U21s but doesn’t want to commit to us either “concentrating” solely on his club career a while. Am I right in saying if he switches back to England he must commit to them for good??

Either way he’s doing what the rules entitle him to do. Good luck to the lad. We move on.

Didn't Obafemi have a little think about it at some stage?
