Absolutely threw that away. I don't want to hear anyone saying "we would have won with Moran". There was enough in the squad tonight to win but Crawford shot himself in the foot. Taking off Emakhu with 30mins left was crazy, most dangerous player on the pitch. Went pear-shaped from there really. Leaving Armstrong on when he wasn't having a good game (goal aside). He's chaotic, but it wasn't working on the night & he was on the wrong side of the ref from minute one. Then a goal down with 15mins left, he sticks with 352, instead of switching to 433 & bring on a couple of players who have already won us matches in campaign - Oko-Flex (2 goals vs Latvia) & Springett (assists vs Turkey & Latvia). No, Crawford leaves actual match-winners on the bench. Vata another one. 2 good goals vs San Marino -> not even in the squad. So, no, I don't want to hear about Moran (he's far better off training with better players & being away from Crawford) On a broader squad point, I think Carty should be moved on. He hasn't been a goalscorer at any level he's played at. Should be replaced by O'Mahony.
AO yes, because he hasn't played for months. Parrott no, because he's playing regularly. Would like to see him start vs NZ with Moran behind him in the 10 role.

O'Mahony will hopefully get a call up next June for the summer training camp. Hopefully this goes a lot better than this year's with one team not showing up and the other being racist towards Armstrong. Na get that Ferguson and Moran combo started this window. Both should start together rather than Parrott and Moran. Edited by J89 - 17 Nov 2023 at 10:47pm |

for all the talk about how talented Norway are, O’Mahony has a far better record at PL2 level than the man united young fella up front for them tonight…

Ollie O'Neill also has a far better PL2 record and he isn't even a striker. |

Absolutely. Gutted with that and once Emakhu (our best player by some margin) went off (with the commentators talking about saving him for Tuesday...Christ) we failed to do much. Very frustrating, but taking the positives, Emakhu looks an excellent versatile forward player and the keeper is a big upgrade on Maher. Tuesday will be tough and assuming the Italians turn us over, the group is wide open and we absolutely need to beat Norway at home next year. |

Lads blaming the ref for it are delusional. Can 100% see why he gave the penalty!
Tactics were absolutely shocking as usual particularly when we went 2-1 up. One stage when we had the ball up the pitch Leavy elects for a conservative pass back instead of knocking it into Emakhu and from there we just aimlessly passed it around until a defender forced it out of play under pressure! This was at 67 minutes not 97 minutes! Zero interest in trying a yard once we got the lead and Norway were there for the taking on the break he leaves players like Springett and Okoflex on the bench. Unforgivable I can defend it to an extent against Italy who might be a superior side but not Norway who clearly weren’t. The subs as many pointed out were awful too! |

I’d actually love Kenny to go back to U21 level. It was too short lived. How much would a LOI manager get versus what they might be able to pay Kenny as head of underage coaches and U21 team?
Could see it happening at some point in future. Imagine he might try his hand in England one time though if something comes up. |

Still frustrated with that result last night.
I recall when we were 1-1 and then 1-2, I was saying that this is one of Jim's better team performances. We looked organised and were giving them very little. Then he subbed off Emakhu and the wheels came loose and then few off. How he can't go 4-3-3 and spring Okoflex (and Springett, assuming fit...on the bench so I assume so) for the last 15 minutes is baffling. Just so frustrating and annoying watching Crawfords 21's and they get results despite the tactics sometimes. Anything out of Tuesday night will be a bonus. |

It wasn’t a peno, the Norwegian fella grabbed and fouled Healy first, and Healy instinctively grabbed him back. It was right in front of the referee and was an easy free out. Norway then were awarded several frees out in succession when we had the good chances to put the ball into their box.

100% there was a massive size difference between Healy and the big block head Norwegian centre half, if Healy goes down it’s an easy decision for the ref.

People saying it wasn't a penalty would be screaming for a penalty if the roles were reversed.

Not sure how you come to that conclusion tbh. Thought he could and should have done better for their 3rd! Disappointing result in the context of trying to top the group. If we had a full team out, I think we'd give the Italians a proper test, but hopefully we can still get a result.

Carty had a fine season for Pats. He's not a great goalscorer, but as a 4th choice stiker for the under-21's he's perfectly fine.

Crawford is fairly hopeless, he has an abundance of attacking talent but still sets the team up ultra-conservatively (yet they still conceded three last night). The lack of consistency makes no sense either - Vata, Springett, and Oko-flex have been excellent in recent games for the Under-21's, yet none of them started yesterday and Vata wasn't even in the squad. Madness!

Just to be clear I didnt blame the ref, I thought the penalty call was harsh but I can see why it was given, I stand by that, I see refs at all levels of the game ignore similar incidents weekly and the old "six of one line etc" is trotted out. The Emakhu substiution was a shocker. As regards the rest, Crawford is a saftey first manager, he was probably more concerned that theyd brought on 2 big lads than us winning the game, no surprise there! It's a shame, even a point would have been a good result. On the plus side, I think we potentially look a better side, certainly in defence nd up top, although I'm not sure Healy deserves quite the level of trust he was afforded last night as the team's midfield lynchpin and Leavy had an average outing.

Big time. It was a peno for me. Stupid from Healy to be doing that right under the nose of the ref. Excellent finish for Norway's third goal. Really tight angle and he buries it. Kenny should have done something similar with his chance. Looking at the fixtures now. I don't see us coming in the top 2. Ireland have to play Italy twice and I can't see us getting a result in either of those games. We really needed to beat Norway last night.
