That's nuts when you put it that way

Looking at the group it's all on Greece in June now. The Gibraltar game is meaningless really, we'll get three points but so will everyone else. So, we really have to beat Greece in June now because if we don't we'll be winless from three games against our rivals and out of contention by the time the next batch of games rolls around in September.

The same Greece who almost never lose at home?

Also, getting 1pt there and beating Gib would be grand.
Assuming we could beat Greece at home and look to challenge the Dutch head-on.
And hoping Greece take something off Holland.

So what I am saying is, we'll be far from out of it after a draw in Athens.

Sorry to add, if we are saying the four games v France and Gibraltar are meaningless then the whole group depends on the 4 versus Greece and Holland.
So how we can be out of contention after just the first of those four is nonsense.

It's just the reality of the group we're in. We need six points against the fourth seeds here to have any realistic hope of taking out the Dutch for second in the group. Other teams will get a result at home to France no doubt, they're not going to win every single game. We've already lost at home to France now and we'll get nothing away either. It's not realistic for us to get six off the Dutch, even four would be a massive stretch, so the only hope is to try to get six off Greece and hope the Dutch don't do similar.

Getting a draw in Athens might seem like a good result on the face of it, but in terms of our hopes of qualifying from the group it will represent the end in reality. That's just the maths of what is a really tough qualification group.

The match has an evening kick off thankfully (it's a Friday). It may well be hot there but a mid afternoon kick off would have been worse again.

We're having the squad meet up and train in the UK for 4 days before heading to Turkey for 9 days to try acclimatize to the heat before heading onto Greece from there. They're arranging behind closed doors games there too.

If it makes any difference,  it's a 9.45pm kick off in Athens & the squad are off to Antalyla for a while before the game

The Champions League final is only on the previous weekend. That’s the end of the club season not the EFL Championship final day etc.

Because they are much further south than us, means the game will be played after dark and under floodlights - should minimise the risk of sky high temperatures.

Looking at June last year on the hottest day it was 36 degrees, 28 at K.O and 26/25 by the end. Still fairly scorching. On the coolest day it was 25 degrees, 21 at K.O and 19 by the end.

Hopefully it'll be on the cooler side but knowing Kennys luck it'll be a new record temp for June in Athens the day we play LOL

The atmosphere lifted the players
Will be hard to recreate that in the remaining home games but hopefully get something close to it

If we were level on points with the Dutch, I presume it's head to head then goal difference?

Greece are very difficult to beat at home but if we stand any chance in qualifying we have to beat them, simple as that. We would want to be taking 6 points off the Greeks and 4 off the Dutch to clinch that 2nd place with the hope that the others drop points, assuming France whitewash the group. Greece will take points off Holland potentially so that’s why it’s pivotal we stroke the 6 off them altogether, a draw against them wouldn’t be bad but that means we will be living in hope of Holland dropping points. Off the back of that performance we can do it but I fear that will
only be a 90 minute job and unable to replicate that in Athens come June.

Great shame we haven't a group fixture straight away after last night! 3 months roughly now until our next must win game where players could be missing when it comes around. Hopefully when the double header comes around in June that everyone is fit and still have energy and enthusiasm after a season where games are so often now after the World Cup break

Goal difference is the second tie break though isn't it? So it could play a part yet. And if three teams on same points it will be used. So a positive start in that regard for us GD wise.
They finally did it man... They killed my f**kin' car...

My own thoughts. It was a proper performance undone by in indefensible mistake early in the 2nd half.

Ogbene and Molumby will get the obvious plaudits both exceptional. Thought Collins and Bazunu were just as good last night. Collins didn’t put a foot wrong and denied by a wonder save late on. Bazunus distribution was good and makes a big difference to an inferior team trying to get out of its own half. Collins in particular was exceptional the calm composed kid we know he can be.

The Wing Backs were very solid and stepped up to the plate like the top flight footballers they are. Coleman is some professional. Ferguson had a tough night but showed some neat touches particularly to get Knight away mid way through the 2nd half. Idah did well when he came on that ball into McClean was exceptional who should have done much better with it.

Negatives I thought O’Shea was poor at times. Very questionable for the goal turned his back away to the ball. Egan put in some great blocks but himself was a bit rash at times. Knight puts in a shift for Ireland but beyond that he was very ordinary and Cullen picked the wrong night to play his worst game for us.

My one criticism of the midfield was the lack of willingness at times to pass forward and the goal was a by product of that. A half arsed passive pass across the face of goal presumably to Knight instead of taking it another yard or two further or playing a positive ball for Knight to run onto/up the field. Was an indefensible mistake at this level in reality and I love Cullen think he’s a proper player.

Positives were we limited France to little chances and the reaction from them at the end was telling they recognised how awkward a game that was and how lucky they were get out with a win!

Need to take that into Greece now. That’s a huge game and if we win that we have a massive chance in this group.

Are we likely to get a play off place via Nations League if we don't finish top 2? Does that depend on Scotland and Ukraine qualifying from their groups?

Mixture of excitement and deflation this morning. A point was warranted with that performance, it was brilliant and it would have given us a real head start on Greece and Holland. How did he save Collins header, freakish.

Can be excited for the rest of the group - hopefully smallbone and ferguson can be the un-doing of Greece. 6 points against them is a must.

Atmosphere was unbelievable and we need to keep that up. It feels like we've a chance of qualifying from this group.
Here we go again
