Railway bridge to Crimea out of action until September 2023. Hitting it was one of the most successful strikes by Ukraine this entire war and complicates logistics for Russias war efforts.

The big wig was killed this morning in a car crash, not the way I thought he'd go. ...in other news the head of the russian military in ukraine has confirmed they are retreating from Kherson to the other side of the dnipro. This will put Ukrainian artillery in a position to hit major supply hubs feeding the russians from Crimea. Only a matter of time before they'll have to fall back to the peninsula. Map indicating Ukrainian artillery range. Holding that sliver of land between the dnipro and crimea is going to be increasingly difficult. http://twitter.com/DefMon3/status/1589326102396571649

Historic moment in this war if the retreat is really true. This is why Ukraine shouldn't have started negotiations. They would have had to barter for the return of Kherson. They took the city back by force. Odessa, Kherson and Mykolaiv now all safe from invasion. Russia took massive losses in this region from day 1. An all round disaster.
They'll move some of their best troops from here to other regions now but so will ukraine. Considering Ukraine are heavily outnumbered in terms of artillery a major shortening of the frontlines probably suit's Ukraine. This will be a major blow to the Russians before the miserable winter set's in.

Major frontline stronghold now in Ukrainian hands. There will be a domino effect.
Many frontline villages and towns liberated today. Going faster then I expected. Entire Mykolaiv Oblast now free. Latest update suggests Kherson city surrounded and large amounts of Russians and equipment gathered at various crossing points. This could be a turkey shoot.

widespread panic tonight amongst russian forces by all accounts with reports of c.20k russian troops stuck on the wrong side of the river. the crossing points are clogged with fleeing troops while the Ukrainians are hammering them with artillery...a total and utter disaster is unfolding.

Maybe our resident Bot #3B6E was called up to the front line. Currently in a Kherson café in civilian clothes trying to login here to tell us how bad NATO is and how we should all be looking for peace. Last few minutes reports the main bridge is out of action and Ukraine are on the city's outer ring road. We'll know tomorrow if true but sounds like a world of hurt for any Russians still in the city.

Russian paratrooper on his last order in Kherson region
"The last oder was change into civilian clothing and run in any direction you wanted"
Look forward to being told how the Western sanctions have failed, Ukraine on the verge of a revolution to remove their president and news Russia are doing so well.

There is a sting coming from the Russians make no mistake about that in the coming days/week. The blowing of dams and the flooding of the Kherson region is quite a possibility at present. That could be quite catastrophic. There was / is no way the Russians are withdrawing just for the sake of it. Frontal offensive or no offensive by Ukraine / NATO.
Outside of the Kherson region, the next 90 to 120 days are going to be quite bad for the ordinary people of Ukraine. The Russians will go after utility/ services infrastructure. They will do there upmost to freeze the people of Ukraine to try and turn them against their own. That's the belief of Putin and is warped generals. They simply don't care. For the first time this week, the yanks / NATO have started to talk about peace talks. It's essential this happens for the ordinary Ukrainian's We got to get away from the narrative that we keep sending weapons to Ukraine instead of peace talks. This war could go on for years otherwise. BTW, if anyone thinks the Ukrainians will walk into Crimea without Putin pushing the button is living on another planet. Crimea is an attack on the "motherland" and is something that Putin wont let happen. |

melitopol is likely to be the focus of the next ukrainian offensive. taking it would cut the occupying russian forces in two but more importantly it would cut the last supply route to crimea.

Northern Luhansk another possible target. Cut the only remaining supply route from the north.

I was reading articles about Russia saying that they were going to withdraw troops from Kherson a couple of weeks ago, and not because they were being pushed out, so if they left voluntarily why is it being played out as some major victory?

They took Kherson at the start of the war to blow up the dam that was preventing water from reaching Crimea supposedly. They held it since the start and began evacuating civilians a month ago before the expected Ukraine offensive, he said, like they have done in other areas, the Russians will back out of Kherson before retaking it. The journalist in this interview talks about it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpHmlnd83hw&t=190s&ab_channel=GeorgeGalloway
