Russian have threatened to draw Ireland into the conflict if we provide IED and de-mining training. Which in itself acknowledges that they are planting landmines in Ukraine. Plumbing new depths

Landmines are despicable.

Both sides guilty of it.

They won't do anything to us. We should go ahead and help with training.

We need to turn down the rhetoric on all this commentary. We need a valve.

Not sure their source but Kyiv independent reporting that Russia are with drawing their heavy artillery to the other side of the river in Kherson. Obviously they'll set up there but it limits the distance they'll be able to reach meaning Ukraine will have fire control over the current front line.

Could see another retreat further back towards the city in a few weeks.

it appears the russians have abandoned kherson city this morning.

flags have not been hoisted on official buildings and russian checkpoints are unmanned along with a video of the russian installed big wig saying it is likely the russian military will withdraw to the other bank of the dnipro and advising all kherson citizens to leave - he recorded this in his car with all his belongings pile up to the roof in the back seat - looks like he has legged it.

big news if true. we should know for certain in the next few hours what exactly the situation is.

Hopefully. Still reports of small groups in the city and the front lines are still manned. But it continues the trend.

The fear is the russians are setting the scene for something horrific i.e. pull out and set something like a dirty bomb off.

If you look at the map, a better border to defend is the south of the river. I suspect Russians are going to settle in there, possibly blow the dam to flood widen the river further, and try to defend a line from there across to Luhansk

The Russians might for once have accepted they were going to get beat in Kherson and orderly retreated to set better defences away from the city which would make sense, but they have hardly applied sense so far during this conflict.

Something really stinks. If the russians blow the dam then there's no water to cool the zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant which at the moment is not exactly in hunky dory condition with the Russians destroying power lines to it earlier today. Currently the plant is running on diesel generators which have 15 days worth of fuel to keep them going.

It feels like we're closer than ever before to nuclear catastrophe.

Wouldn't that cut the water supply to Crimea which they badly need?

It's a real shame it took the West so long to supply these high end systems.

Considering Zaporihiza is controlled by the Russians and the land around it. It would be a very odd tactic to have it badly damaged and create a nuclear leak.

It would damage this forums' reputation
