Western sanctions have caused huge poverty over many decade's Does The Comedian spend any time in Ukraine these days? At what point do the military experts expect Crimea to be liberated? At what point will the Russian economy collapse? Has Putin been overthrown yet? Have Rissia run out of equipment yet? |

Postcode by your logic Ukraine should have let Russia take over the country, Zelenski left on a plane on the first day and be an absentee leader and Europe to shrug their shoulders and go ah well Putin keep selling us your gas and let's carry one as before.

My point is that in order to achieve peace we must compromise Russian military strength has been massively underestimated How many men could Europe mobilise tomorrow hypothetically? The terms of the Minsk agreement in 2014 were not adhered to Russian speakers have suffered huge discrimination under this regime We must recognise these grievances. Additionally , the annexed areas are majority Russian. This is a fact. America have no interest in peace. Europe must be a broker of peace not an American pawn. Levels of poverty in Europe have sky rocketed due to these sanctions

I assume the "we" in "we must compromise" includes Russia? What compromises do you think Russia are willing to make? The reality is that any compromise you expect Europe to make is actually just a surrender. Very transparent way of pretending to be a peace advocate. You should move to Russia, especially with how much you bang on about Ireland being a kip.

It’s interesting to see the likes of John McDonnell pointing out that assisting Ukraine is now necessary. The remaining ‘peace and neutrality -mongers’ are really being shown up as being ideological shills hiding behind a fig-leaf of ‘peace and neutrality’, while happily trotting out the tired tropes of Russia ‘intervening’ on behalf of ethnic minorities non-existent provocation, and the usual cries of conspiracy about the Western media, NATO, and the USA. It’s extremely transparent, most notably because it’s the same individuals, treading the same path, with the same narrative.
I would like to know if some of the fig leaf ‘peaceniks’ would agree with negotiated settlements, and ‘imperfect peace’ in other ongoing conflicts, and in recent conflicts around the world. The truth is peace is the most desirable outcome. Everybody knows that, but how peace is achieved becomes more complicated when one nation aggressively invades another.

All peace settlements are imperfect At what point do you want a peace settlement? Russia are all in on this. I cannot see how the UA drives them out. Delaying the call for a peace settlement strengthens Russias hand because if they gain an upper hand, which they will, the less they will give. |

To say the peace would be ‘imperfect’ would be an understatement. The aggressor (Russia) would have, through use of military force, forced Ukraine to hand over territory, agree to stay out of any entangling alliances, and weakened sovereignty in the region. Rather than deterring Russia (in a similar way to Daytona not deterring Slobodan and his merry men), it would encourage them to continue this approach in the future to weaken, neuter, and indirectly control sovereign states.

Honestly the best path to peace is give Russia what they want. Sure it's not like they'll just do it again down the line.
Peace

Best time to call for peace is when you are in the stronger position Russia are mobilising huge numbers Such numbers are there to occupy not merely war. |

Don't think giving them the planning permission they want in Dublin 14 will end the war Mark.

Why does the Geneva convention and "war crimes" apply to a country being invaded? Russia invading and continuing to invade is the only war crime here. As long as a Russian soldier is on Ukrainian soil there shouldn't be any protections for them. This isn't a war between 2 countries who agreed to it on neutral soil. Load of bollocks.

Just out of curiosity. Were the US / UK and co charged with War Crimes for Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Libya.............. etc etc? What is happening in Ukraine is of course horrible, but I think we often forget what has happened in the not so distance past by the so-called "Good-guys". |

But you can forget it in this case. This is a conflict that was started by Russia, when they invaded a sovereign state. This is more like the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait which caused the first Gulf War. Russia are the bad guys here.
