3BL relegation match between Zwickau and Essen was called off at half time after a fan drenched the ref with a beaker of beer.

Confirmed sacked. Can't be based on the results. Must be true that he doesn't get on with those who run the club

1/4 finals of the European Cup, 2nd in the league and probably still in the cup. Just a tad harsh

Really enjoyable trip. Great atmosphere at the game, the early goal helped! My mate was a huge Pauli fan and Saturday would have been his birthday so cool to see the tributes to him in the Millerntor on Sunday. And cheers to the poster on here who messaged me in case I was short of a ticket - All worked out in the end.

The clue was there !! Got into following Dortmund when I started to see them on tv in the early 90s not long after I had started to learn German. I do also keep an eye our for FC Koln and Fortuna Koln as I used to go and watch both regularly when I spent summers in Cologne as a student.

If you'd thrown Bayern out and stuck Dortmund through I'd be fully in favour of it!!!

It's the new fast tracking system I've employed for competitions where my club are no longer involved. Thanks

I think the other 8 teams who have yet to be knocked out of the Pokal might be a bit surprised to hear this!

It is because German reunification had a massive impact on clubs - 1994 was a time where many old GDR clubs were struggling for identity, and struggling to know if they had a future.

(Sorry, omitted to include this further extract from the above paper - my emphasis) "In this paper we identify 119 football club insolvencies across the top five tiers of the German pyramid that have occurred since 1994. The performance of the top clubs depends to some extent on the financial viability of lower tier clubs, because lower division clubs are incubators of talent in the national football system and every club contributes to talent identification in some way (Göke et al., 2014; Prinz & Weimar, 2018; Wallrafen et al., 2018). Moreover, due to the system of promotion and relegation, more than one third of the insolvencies we identify relate to clubs that had played in one or both of the top two divisions over the previous twenty years. The focus on the financial stability of clubs currently playing in the top two tiers of football appears to have created biased perceptions about the financial health of clubs in the German football pyramid as a whole." Not so different from English football at all, is it?
