I don't support Liverpool but they've recently won the league, champions League and this year the 2 cups and possibly a third. Both city and Liverpool fan's are Very satisfied right now. The rest of us have no place sl*gging them and come across as desperate if we do. Credit where credits due. Both on top of the world right now.

As opposed to the solemn silence that Liverpool fans observed when City won the league off United on the last day....

And like I said at the start one league title for the greatest football team we’ve ever seen (says it all really).

Aw, bless. Still, we shouldn't go too hard on Man U fans since, let's face it, that's all they have to console themselves with these days. Arsenal fans on the other hand, you couldn't kick them hard or often enough when they're down... |

All over Facebook and Twitter United fans making a show of my themselves. Celebrating city winning the league to stop Liverpool while also sl*gging off city's smaller fanbase saying they've no fans. Must be hard to have your 2 biggest rivals dominating the game while attempting to sl*g them both.
United no better then arsenal fans who are constantly bettered by their 2 London rivals these days. Arsenal and United relegated to the scrap heap.

As against that, M.City only took two more points (i.e. 8 from 18) from their top four opponents than Liverpool. Which shows just how wafer thin the margins are eg had Foden not got that late equaliser at Anfield back in October, Liverpool would have won the title by two points. (And before anyone brings up the old "If my Aunt Fanny had balls etc" trope, don't bother, I'm not saying what could/should have happened, merely emphasising just how close it really was.)

This is the English PL thread, what relevance has the champions league to this thread?

In fairness, my comment is more about the sun-heading referenced by Muff. I agree that the financial muscle isn’t the same, but Liverpool are not short of sufficient muscle themselves to buy players at very high value, and the bulk of the team are high value purchases. I accept the money has been often raised through player sales, but that doesn’t mean that they also have a clutch of £40 million players.

Overachieving in the sense that they haven't has as big a net spend as some of their rivals, but taking that out of it and looking on paper at their manager, team and squad i don't think its an overachievement.
They've some of the best players in the world and their manager is among the best. They probably have a better squad than Citys, and if you did a combined team Liverpool would probably have more players on it. The two clubs bring the best out in each other on the pitch. Unreal levels of consistency and points totals. Was surprised that Liverpool had no wins against the other top 4 teams this season, drew all 6 of those games. Something they can improve on for next year

Of course they are overachieving - They are by no means poor but Chelsea, Man City and Man United have been able to afford to spend more on transfers and wages. This is down to the self-sustaining model the owners want and I'm fine with that. And I still think the exceptionalism comment isn't valid - Absolutely none of that from anybody I talked at the game on Sunday or in town afterwards.

Don’t get me wrong, Man City and Liverpool are really as good as it gets in World Football. But for a margin here and there, Liverpool could well be toasting an unprecedented English quadruple. If Liverpool lift the European Cup on Saturday, this season will surely go down as one of their best. That being said, I’m not entirely sure that there is not at least a splash of exceptionalism when it comes to comment like the one we are discussing appropriates the title of “glorious losers” and effectively claiming that City couldn’t have that in a neck and neck title race. In fact, in the same circumstances, I think Alex Ferguson would simply have deemed it failure without anything to redeem it (of course that would be different if he had three cups in his back pocket). I don’t think Liverpool are overachieving. It’s a reflection of a remarkable team and a remarkable manager. But that’s not to say they don’t have their own financial muscle.

It's not exceptionalism - It's a reflection on reality. It's been a great season - 2 trophies won, a chance of another and a proper challenge for the PL. All this done against a team who have unlimited wealth - Liverpool have overachieved. And this is probably the best Liverpool side that most fans have seen. That's the reason for the positive outlook. |

The
Congrats to City, table doesnt lie. Only ONE point separates the 2 teams over last 4 seasons but City won it 3 times. Fair play to them. Long season for LFC hopefully something left in the tank for Sat and not too many injuries.
