It's definitely the strongest league in years. Some mad results last night. O'Donnell and Devine under serious pressure to keep their jobs.

3,700+ at Tolka last night. Back in 2017 we had less than 500 in Tolka losing to UCD. It's a great time to be a red Clap

Every team bar one or two, Bray included, seem to be way way up. Mad comparing some teams to a few years back, Shels, Bohs, Waterford the most drastic I'd say.

Yeah the league itself is thriving in terms of crowds. A lot of people who don't go to the games and are EPL fans would also be taking way more of an interest in the league now and know what's going on whereas a few years ago this wasn't the case. Great to see

It is great to see but now is the time we need to jump all over it. We gotta get the grounds up to some sort of decent standard. Be interesting to see what Drogheda do now after taking over their ground. Bohs new stadium. Sligo have an upgrade in the pipeline. We need more and for it not to take decades which as we know is a possibility.

There will be an election coming soon which should be used as an opportunity to push for more funding.

Shels capacity is somewhere around 4,700 and the sides of the river side stand are empty. If they had the money, could they add seats there to expand capacity or is there another reason they couldn’t do it?

Open to correction here but i think they have the money to put the rest of the seats back into the Riverside but are prohibited in dong so by the H&S mob due to fire concerns?

The government couldn't give the FAI anymore money.

That's the stand behind the goal. I think it's a combination of the roof needing repairs and it didn't have the necessary certs when it was built and when that was discovered it was closed.

Plan for Tolka is to expand the Riverside on both sides by putting terracing there (due to happen this season), which will add a lot more capacity there. Then to get the stand behind the goal done up and certified which will add more to the capacity. I'm not sure on the timeline on the latter, but Shels have submitted plans to DCC to have all refurbishments completed by the end of 2026 I think

It's not just about the FAI getting more money from government.
It's finances being made available to councils, for example, for more projects like Tallaght stadium, Dalymount etc that can also be community assets.

That’s great to hear, should bring capacity up to 7k or so?
Would the restrictions have anything to do with the riverside being open? Seems crazy the riverside has to empty through the new stand, I can’t imagine H&S being too enamored with that

Not sure I follow - which restrictions and where did you hear the Riverside empties through the new stand?

Am guessing that more punters in the door short term might help to generate more cash and interest to help with doing something more significant longer term.

Our options are limited. We were offered to ground share with Bohs but that would have been a disaster for the club. DCC (owners) weren't willing to fund the refurbishment of Tolka and Dalymount, so we're out on our own

There is a company set up to purchase a 250 year lease from the DCC for Tolka. To get the purchase of the lease through approvals they need to prove that they have the funds to (i) pay for the lease and (ii) refurbish Tolka to a high enough standard that satisfies the council. The ground will no doubt improve if this all goes through, but it won't be a new build. Not sure what other good options we have unless someone has €30m or so lying around

It's a tough situation - The best decision would have been to move to Dalymount but that's taking the emotion out of it (and football is an emotional game so not sure anybody would want to do that).
The footprint of Tolka probably limits what can be done.
