his own bad performance. the numbers have stopped sliding thankfully but he has some way to go to clawing himself back to being a "par" level shot stopper this season.

It's really not. Southampton conceded 15/16 goals in their first five games - 1 of them was Bazunu's fault and there was maybe one more he could have done better with. The whole team had basically given up defending and were allowing one free shot after another at him. It's no surprise that as they have better organised themselves, they've stopped conceding so many goals.

Another poster who thinks they know better than Opta.

It really is his own bad performance.

xG measures the positions a team is allowed shoot from. That's a measure of the defence, and Southampton's is pretty high. It's about 20. It's expected that an average keeper will have conceded 20 goals behind that defence. That's a lot.

Bazunu has conceded 25. The extra five is all on him.

(There's a bit more nuance to it, but that's the basic gist)

Oh ffs, he was absolutely blessed with the one that went through his hands and came off the post! He did ok, no more than that. The goal beats him at his near post!

I'm not saying he was perfect but thought he did pretty well considering how bad his colleagues were and against a good side. Do we have to slate the kid every week?

IMO no chance for the goal, made a number of great saves and interceptions, and was quick off his line. Very good game

I'm not slating him, I thought he did ok, and he got very lucky on one occasion with a bad error.

He had no chance for the goal. Some people think a keeper should save everything on his inside - that's not how it works. Weghorst blasted it in and he was never saving it.

In fairness to John Nice, I also thought he got lucky with the shot off the post. He should have got a solid hand to that and pushed it wide. Other than that, very solid. He's going to be an Irish centurion for sure

I only saw the replay once on a small phone screen but did the ball bounce funny before the save?
