It is also a lot easier to make a save if shot is from distance or under pressure versus players having a clear chance on goal (that the worse defences Will give up more of). You could probably put Alisson in goal for Southampton this season and he would be near the bottom

Disagree, any of the top 5 in that list would have significantly better stats than Gavin. Dean Henderson has conceded only 3 less goals than him and is a lot better stats wise. It’s about time we admit Bazunu is having a bad season and his confidence is rocky at best. Hopefully it’s just a one-off and next season he can show his talent that we all know he has

Think the move to the PL might have come a year too soon for Bazunu. Might have got a bit of luck McCarthy has been injured!!

He’s still incredibly young for a keeper! Anyone want context go look up where all the current PL first choice keepers were playing the season they were ages 20/21 which Bazunu is currently! Any of the current English keepers were operating in League 1 or 2 at best even Ramsdale was playing on loan with Chesterfield. (Raya and Sanchez included in this also). All 3 of them still young for keepers and proper goalkeepers now.

From goalkeeper stats on the PL website a few weeks back he figures 4th in punches, 3rd in high claims, 2nd in passes as well! All hipster nonsense I know but it does show he’s doing plenty stuff okay too and more importantly is already showing good traits top teams now crave in the “modern” goalkeeper! The save thing will hopefully perk up with experience!

xGOT is basically the likelihood of any given shot on target ending up as a goal based on where the shot was taken from but also where in the goalmouth the shot ended up.

Goalkeepers make mistakes all the time. They are more scrutinised than an outfield player. Hes in a poor side also so hes going to be under pressure even more. Look at De Gea or Allison. They are prone to mistakes and they are playing in top sides. It happens. Yes Gavan has made a few errors but you can't go dropping a keeper everytime they make a mistake. Its clear hes a good goalkeeper.

Exactly. They're only young lads coming through in the beat league in the world with a lot of media/fan pressure. Even if this season doesn't go their way they have long careers ahead of them and this experience will stand them in good stead.

Bazunu is just about surviving and will likely stay in the team now they have a bit of momentum! There is a chance it was a year too early for him as far as playing in the PL this season!

Hassenhuttl showed monumental faith in him in hindsight!

Lavia coming back has made a huge difference! Will hopefully give Southampton a confidence push fine doing it in the Cups but to get that League win is huge! Confidence boost for Bazunu too!

Delighted for Nathan Jones too Soton fans on social media certainly have turned into an arrogant bunch had completely written off Nathan Jones too soon!

Hopefully this result gives the team a bit of a lift for the league and it will certainly help Bazunu's confidence Thumbs Up

Yes, he looked really solid. Played the sweeper keeper role well and commanded his area when he needed to. I wouldn't say he didn't have any saves, there was a dangerous cross ball that he snuffed out that would have been a tap in if he hadn't. Also had a tricky one where Haaland went for (and missed) a header but the ball to Haaland was going in and he had to save it.

That's the second Southampton game I've watched this season where you'd think there's no way they could go down based on that, but they seem to struggle when they go behind in any game.

Hadn't a save to make tonight and yet theres certain sections of Irish and Southampton fans lauding him again for a clean sheet, yet, in another game when he ships 1 or 2 goals where hes not even at fault and where hes had several other shots on target and made decent stops hes judged to have had a poor game.
