I just glanced at article and thought same. So it’s 20k broken down into payment in lieu of holidays and expenses? Is that it? What’s the problem here?

There has to be something amiss if he has said it will be paid back?

Maybe it’s the expenses bit? Because it was agreed he would move to Ireland?

Much to the disappointment of some no doubt, but there is no funny business going on here I'm afraid.

The government set a salary limit for the CEO under the bailout conditions, the additional income claimed by Hill from days in lieu and travel expenses pushed him above the threshold set by government.

Its a bit of sensationalist headline by the Indo and a non story overall IMO, if anything it shows the new governance of the FAI is working in that it was flagged and brought to light immediately.

I think that’s a fair point. Looks like there’s some proper governance going on. And looks like this falls at the lower end of things. Indo & most media live to exaggerate/ sensationalise.

I would like to put my name forward for the CEO position. I would charge less than 280,000 a year also.  For those of you have attended my leadership talks at KPMG you know what I bring to the table.

Why are things so bad in the FAI that this sh!t is happening again? Are the same jokers running the show in the background or what's the story?

The Hill thing was a non-story from the start, some politicians and media trying to make something out of nothing.

It is and it isn't. It does show he's still living in the UK despite assurances he'd move here. How a CEO can live in a different jurisdiction and claim to be fully on top of their brief I don't know.

I really dont get the problem with him living in the UK, its a half hour flight away. He spends the majority of his time here in his office in Abbotstown. Its no different than someone chosing to commute from outside of Dublin, it has little to no impact on his job.

Is he the right person for the job though? That till remains to be seen. Still no title sponsor, no womens team manager and now no mens senior team manager. Add to that the issues with funding and the FAI board being in disarray it would suggest hes not on top of things.

BUT, Im still willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for now. He has a good background and it was no easy job to walk in and fix the mess left behind, hes up against it with the old crowd still in situee but he at least doesn't seem to be up to any tricks like his predecessor in regards to these payments. It was all declared and in the books and the fact it was caught shows the corporate governance of the association is on the ball.

It's not making something out of nothing though when the whole  optics of the story, along with the gender and covid payment issues, just reminds people of the old FAI which is exactly what they don't want happening.

For all Delaneys faults he was good at being a politican. This meant going around to every ground in the country and shaking hands. He was a bit like Bertie Ahern, in that he was a gangster but had built up massive goodwill around the country because he had bought people a pint, shook the hand or whatever and people liked them on a personal level.

Hill has done none of this living in England, his brief was most likely to deliver the Euros. He has never tried to ingratiate himself to the "grassroots", and that lack of a personal touch is now starting to show with the questions being asked.
