I've been against NPHET getting any air time since the start of this. Their job is to advise the government, not to hold daily press conferences. No other advisory board on any topic gets the attention they do.
 
At this rate every meeting in the civil service at every level should be televised!

Agree. And their flip flopping on this issue suggests they are failing badly. masks in school and antigens being pushed through 20 months into this.  

The situation is changing constantly. Flip Flopping is when you change your mind with the underlying issue stays the same. It's okay to change your opinion when the situation changes.

exactly. everyone is an expert after the fact. they should have done this they should have done that.

We know for the guts of this pandemic that this is an airborne disease and nothing has been done to protect kids in schools. Also, Antigens were approved in Europe over a year ago.

Many experts would strongly disagree with NPHET strategy and their communication and messaging has been nothing short of abysmal. 
Earlier this week, Holohan said there won't be any more restrictions. Today he will hold a presser without Government involvement and advise kids should be locked down.
These are the same kids who attend are schools which NPHET say are safe, before saying they didn't actually day that. 
This is the same NPHET that scrapped trace and contact in schools. The same NPHET who told kids to wash hands as the main measure for an airborne virus.

Where have i given out about them? im saying i don't want them making crucial decisions which could be literally life changing. they are not qualified.

Which is why there are advisory boards like NEPHT to guide them. It's then their job to take that advise and make decisions based on medial, social, economic an various other factors. Whether you agree with some government decisions or not this is how things work. NEPHT are solely medical, they would close the country down to eliminate covid faster if they could but it's not a real world solution.

He's not telling them to be locked down Gerk, he's saying avoiding indoor playdates and sleepovers. They're all still in school today and will be out at football and playgrounds tomorrow morning. 

And like people told you earlier, the underlying has changed here, this new variant sounds aggressive, every country including the EU is taking extra precautions in the past 24 hours. It's right that we take more precautions now that there's a new variant until we know more.

Gerk, have a read of this to see what other nations are doing this week, it's far from Tony H and NPHET going off on a solo run here, every country's health authorities and government has come to the same conclusion that we need more restrictions in the past 48 hours.

The underlying has not changed. As per Mike Ryan a couple of hours ago, absolutely nothing has changed yet.
And IF these measure are to combat the new variant, well then we may all give up right now.

And Holohon took these steps before any new variant. In fact, the only thing that has changed since Holohon saying no more restrictions and the latest development is hospitals falling almost 20 per cent and cases positivity stabilising. 

The only reason these 'measures' are being advised is because primary school cases spiked because they decided to remove track and trace and failed to introduce proper filtration.

Not one of these countries has come out with basically a lockdown for kids, probably because they already had proper mitigation measures in place. I have no issue with public measures where they seem reasonable.   

Also...above are all Government decisions. Have Government approved latest NPHET recommendations or not?

Gerk, I have no idea if your beef is that
1. NPHET aren't talking to government
2. that you think kids are being locked down
3. that government removed track and trace for schools
4. Something else 
5. a combination of all of the above

I don't think NPHET are purposely saying things to annoy us if that's what you're thinking. I'm sure in hindsight everyone would make a better decision than them, but NPHET need to make the recommendations in real time

Of course they are not saying things to annoy us. But some people feel they can't be questioned because "they are the experts".  As I have said, many experts feel they have utterly failed. 
Real time? The have had 20 months to put in mitigation measures in schools. And only after 20 months have they given antigen some sort of air time. 

My beef is their errors and failure to correct them. They counted too much on vaccine, simple as that.
And now they want to hold pressers and give advice without Government approval. They are an advisory to Government, nothing more.
