This is a good thread about the differences between New York and Madrid, why the former has recovered well while the latter is floundering again.

Among other reasons, indoor dining is still banned in New York, New York has also put a good contact tracing system in place, Madrid hasn't.

When Stanford professor Michael Levitt told the LA Times on March 23rd that Covid was nothing to worry about, 693 people had died in the US.

Now 197,395 have died.

Levitt has no medical background and no expertise to make the claims he has made and had people quoting for the last six months. He has been wrong at every stage.

This is what happens when somebody decides to venture out of their field of expertise and peddle snake oil.

Let nobody ever cite what Levitt says about Covid again, because it's f**king bullsh*t.

10,500 new cases in France today.

Should be a travel ban to places with exponentially high cases

The indoor dining is not the major issue as you would make out and our stats here would support. Spain’s culture is geared toward household dining with friends and extended family anyway

The contact tracing is a major stumbling block. Like it is here. Our capacity for testing has already been found out and this is the 2nd week in September before a long winter.

Indoor dining includes bars

There could barely be a better place to spread the virus than a bar

NY isn't opening them until September 30th and even then only at 25% capacity

Madrid is a city heavily geared towards socialising and nightlife, it really is tremendously social, which is great in normal times but perfect for spreading this virus

There would have to be actual deaths for it to happen.

All 255 expected of course, to make a full recovery. If they haven't already.

Finally, Ireland looks set to open its door. Ironically as cases rise, I somehow have a feeling an impending court case on Tuesday may have played a role.

There were 1007 cases here on Saturday. Over the last 7 or 8 days, there's probably been close to 6000 new cases.
