Fairly sure the bus driver's union has already confirmed that drivers won't be responsible for enforcing it. It'll be up to the guards to do spot checks and the like I'd imagine.

Can they not just allow them on?Confused
No they cant just not let them on. Bus Drivers have no authority legally to stop people getting on public transport be it for refusing to pay their fare or not wearing a mask. They can however just not move the bus, radio their control room and inform of the situation. They will then be directed as to their next action, ie continue as normal or await Gardai, which can take forever.

Look what happened in France recently, never mind the fairly common assault already on bus drivers here aready.

I mean on buses, the bus driver can kinda stop it, as there is (usually) only 1 entry point on to the bus.

Luas security were throwing anyone with no mask on out at my station and pointing them towards the shop to buy one. Saw 3 people on mine and another couple on the opposite side.

One fella decided to take it out of his bag and put it on when he was told to get off.

I think they need to implement it forcefully this week or it won’t take off. They could do with those bucks on dart/bus too

They would want to make an announcement on what is happening with the pubs on Monday. I would be of the persuasion that they shouldn't open properly until at least after the August Bank Holiday weekend but if they made a decision we could at least start planning a different form of entertainment then.

It can't be policed because there will be a genuine reasons for not wearing a mask, like asthma.

It works pretty much the same in England, if you're not wearing a mask on a bus you have some sort of condition or you're just plain ignorant, if you think it's the latter then the bus companies say just sit well away from him. But who are people to judge, he doesn't have to bring an inhaler to prove everyone wrong.

Trains are a different story however, heavily monitored by British Transport Police, you will be asked on the condition and anything to verify the story.

Oh right hadn't heard that - originally it was supposed to be last week. Its all very cagey but I would imagine full opening will be postponed? Then again the fact they are letting flights on from the states means you just don't know.

I was on a flight home yesterday and the Cabin Crew were telling people they didn't have to self-isolate for two weeks, "its not mandatory" they were saying. Any wonder the tourists aren't doing it.

Anybody who thought people were self isolating for 14 days is in for a shock at Xmas when they find out their parents left the presents

In fairness it's not up to the cabin crew to be telling them, it should be made clear before they even get their flight

You have to fill out a contact tracing form on arrival. It says nothing on that form about isolating so I can see how tourists wouldn't actually know they had to.

I guess because I follow the news here I know what is expected of me when I return, a foreigner probably has no clue.

Reading that Americans were refused entry into a restaurant in Tralee when they admitted to not isolating. Fair play to the owner/manager Clap

Which is exactly why you should be informed before you travel.

A foreign traveller has probably planned on using public transport, may have activities organised, may have more than one accommodation booked and the list goes on.

I think Monty Martin was intending to delay the full reopening of pubs but is in a bit of a bind now as last weekend was reasonably quiet in Dublin CC compared to the previous weekend and a tiny number of pubs were reported to have flaunted the rules. Added to this the unholy mess around travel, cowengate etc might make him have a rethink. On the other hand how can he stand over telling rural pubs in counties with little cases of the virus such as Leitrim, Sligo that they should not open. Leo played the cute hoor game to perfection

Are face coverings mandatory in shops in Ireland?

Asking because seeing alot of associations with other respiratory illnesses such as AsthmaUK telling people to go against UK Government advice which could end up in a sticky situation.

As if 2020 was going bad enough the Bubonic Plague has decided to come back and infected a 15 year old in Mongolia. He died.  There has been other occurrences in a province of Mongolia called Khovd.  No doubt that's pronounced Covid.  What a year.
