4.7% of the population doesn't sound like a lot, buts its huge. This is pretty devastating. A semi normal summer is further away now because of this

We don't need 100% vaccinated for herd immunity. Once we get the rest on time, should be ok

On the flip side, Pfizer are producing 50% more vaccines so we'll probably end up having more vaccines than was predicted two weeks ago

[QUOTE=The GerK]It ain't as bad as feared when Vidic puts it like that.
Also on the SA variant. There are signs the vaccine MAY not be AS effective. They can also adapt it in six weeks to del with the SA variant. All is not lost just yet [/QUOTEYeah I was watching an interview with Scott Gotlieb, ex FDA commissioner during the week. He was saying that variants of the virus will be met with variants of the vaccine very quickly if neccessary. It wouldn't have to go back through the amoutn of clinical trials as first time out. It's like the flu jab that chanes a little every year. He also said that if there was a significant variant, that he could see a top up being required for people in the Autumn this year.

I see Hungary are doing a solo run and ordering doses of Sputnik.
Question for people. If Ireland did the same would you take it if offered? I think I would.

[edit] if and when approved by EMA I’d take it - Russia has only applied to EU for approval. This is an interesting development - Putin really is a skilled meddler.

Ah, didn't realise Pfizers increase was so high. At least more doses of the more effective vaccine! Still, makes the logistics more difficult

Yeah it’s definitely more stronger than before. My uncle who is 90 got it and somehow survived but the doctors said they have new drugs and standard protocols now - thin the blood, lots of steroids etc which they didn’t have in March. Despite this the mortality rate is higher now.

Heard about that but it wasn't in the part of the factory that's producing the c19 vaccine so production of it won't be affected.

Have they said that production won’t be impacted or are you deducing that from the fire didn’t happen in that part of the factory

They've said production isn't impacted and that it was in a different part of the site. Statement from Serum institute was released shortly after

Fair enough. It will be interesting to see their reason for cutting back the European supply as the uk supply is not impacted. Let’s hope they back track like Pfizer

Yeah soon see, after discussions with EU Pfizer went from a 4 week delay to 1 week. AstraZeneca talks with them next week so presume it'll be a waiting game until then
