I know and I've been following the war between them a while now. I do think there's maybe a 10% chance there's truth behind this theory however. There are well known Russian connections in other EU countries many whom they've not named yet from the investigations.

Many of the far right were claiming he'd take the huge amount of money raised for him and he'd never be seen again (not that there's anything wrong if he did return to his family in Brazil). Looks like they were wrong.

the far right love a good split. 6 candidates now running in the Dublin constituency. Niall Boylan is the latest rat licker to join ranks.

Aodhan O'Riordan doesn't want to build a new prison. What is it with the destructive leftie mentality? Sure he makes a few suggestions but the reality is we are completely over crowded and that's with very lenient sentencing. We need a new prison and his suggestiond implemented not one or the other.

agree that we need more prison space. Reading about prisoners sleeping on the floor. Surely human rights issues there.
Like every other post you make on this forum you reference the left or right I'm actually quite entertained at you referencing it in every post at this stage

Anti-carceral policy has its place. There are countless crimes that could be atoned for via community service, training programmes and greater services in areas like education. But there are the likes of Tony Felloni whose final stretch demonstrated that prison does work. After 15 years in jail he emerged too old, and “out of the loop” to restart his old activities so in effect that stretch put him out of business. After his first Irish sentence in 1986 he emerged at an age and a time that was ripe for him to start again. Had the sentence been longer in ‘86, he may not have got the chance.

indeed , put the career scummers away for life, break the chain.
And it needs to be at least 20 years. Community services and proper counselling for non serious offenders , try to change minds.

I’m convinced there are people that can be worked with and people that can’t be. Felloni was in the latter category. He was a user and an exploiter, and all for material gain. The only thing that controlled him was jail time, and ultimately the aging process. There are also heinous crimes that are not deserving of rehabilitation, or at least the rehabilitation process can only be part of the sentence (with serious jail time the head line punishment).

In this week's Left Right Left podcast I delve deeper into the influence Russia has in EU politics. Last week I raised the concern of Russian influence amongst the far right in Ireland and briefly touched on how they've infiltrated many far right parties in Europe. Now it seems in Germany they've infiltrated the far left aswell.
"The far-right AfD not only takes money from Russia and China, their manifest was even written in Moscow. 1.5 years ago the Russian government was developing a strategy paper how the AfD can get votes in Germany. The core method was to saw division and hate, exactly what the AfD is doing. Top members were caught using the content of this manifest, almost word by word. Nothing surprising. The treasonous quisling character of the AfD is well known. What was the Hitler-Stalin pact back in 1939, is today AfD-Putin, though with the slight difference that unlike Hitler the AfD is under full control of Moscow." No surprise there but it seems the little green lefties have been caught out too. "German greens accused of lying over nuclear power safety to force plant shutdowns Junior ministers covered up key technical reports" Doing Putin's biding for him which made the country far more reliant on Russia fossil fuels which has caused economic hardship due to their support of Ukraine. Now ask yourself can you think of any little green goblins hiding reports and sowing division in Ireland? Edited by eireland - 28 Apr 2024 at 1:21am |

I was just looking at the list of candidates for the EP in the various constituencies in Ireland. After years of having the occasional far-right candidate, or right leaning candidate, the ballots will be festooned with far-right cranks and weirdos.

As someone said to me the other day. Too many egos etc that they can’t agree and gather around one candidate. We will see will they be able to effectively use the PR system.

Also, to a candidate, none of them are impressive or bright. I suspect they all believe they are the best version of what that sort of thought will offer, and like you say, they split that vote rather than coordinate. Having said that, they’ll split a negligible vote. There is no threat of a far-right electoral break-through. The difficulty with the far-right in Ireland is they find other ways to be relevant.
