They're all lucky Kenny is the manager. Would be lucky to have half of that.

Like we have a pile of other options we don't know about. Where are all these other players??

And if they go down then he is right back there again. And there is a real chance they do.

They arent a team that will be looking at a promotion any time soon. They arent building anything.

It's an improvement right now but long term it doesnt speak to great prospects for him.

I'm sure Knight will have a relegation clause built into his contract, so it probably would be a big deal if they get relegated.

It's a good move because it means he won't be playing L1. He absolutely could not risk having another season like the one he's just had.

- L1 isn't a good enough standard for what we need.
- No guarantee Derby get promoted.
- His stock could've dropped to the point he gets stuck in L1 for several years.
- He's about to have a lot more competition in midfield for Ireland, we could have a lot of uncapped players in the Championship with possibly all of Moran, Hodge, Phillips, Coventry, Azaz, Connell, Kilkenny making moves. That's in addition to Szmodics, Vaughan & Taylor who already are there. And Noss & Johansson will have to get moving. Could see Jack Henry-Francis get a loan too.

You say that like we have 10/12 players playing in La Liga,Serie A, Ligue 1 Bundesliga as well as the few in the “Prem”. As long as our players are content to piss about down the EFL lower Leagues if they can’t get a PL move that will be the case not cause they are bad players cause the barrier to entry into the PL is so high.

Expecting an ignorant Englander to reply to this telling me football doesn’t exist outside of England and I’m wrong.

Negativity around Knights move to Bristol is bizarre. Replacing Scott is what I see and it’s as good as move as can be expected. Bristol are signing Knight with a view to selling him on for a profit down the line. Not to send him backwards.

Agree. Derby has been a basket case the last couple of years. He’s been playing all over the shop. This is a step back up to Championship with hopefully a chance to nail down a regular starting place in his preferred position

They arent a team that will be looking at a promotion any time soon. They arent building anything.

It's an improvement right now but long term it doesnt speak to great prospects for him.

Three seasons ago they finished 26 points from the playoffs, two ago the finished 20 off playoffs and last season they finished 10 points from the playoffs. So a gradually improving side, under a manager who does know the division and how to get out of it as he did with Leicester & has a good pedigree in signing players.

What has happened there this summer departures wise or finances wise to make you say what you said  ?    What has changed  ?

They aren't wealthy, they aren't a buzz transfer no. But what are you basing there is a real chance they go down on ?  When the above is what has actually been happening.

They have very little quality in their side. It would be very easy for them to get dragged into a relegation battle.

Rotherham and Plymouth will probably go down. Bristol City will be part of a group with QPR, Cardiff and Birmingham for the other place. I think theres a massive chance they get relegated. Let's see in a few months. Maybe I'll be massively wrong.

It's a higher standard of football for Knight, but I dont expect him to stand out in any meaningful way in what will be a poor season for Bristol.

Equating Pearson getting that Leicester squad promoted, who were clearly the best squad in the division when they went up, and thinking that somehow means that he can get a poor squad up - there is no connection there.

As for going down I don’t really see that at all. Think they will likely range from 13-20th again.

I think they will be challenging for the play offs - it is as good a move as any of the others that were mooted i.e. Stoke/Birmingham. Bristol City could quite easily finish highest of those 3 next season.

As for the attacking midfield role, I genuinely hope that's not where Knight plays as that just isnt his game imo. He doesnt have the level of vision/creativity/passing range required imo. I'd prefer to see him used as a box to box 8 making use of his tenacity and running power, either as part of a two in central midfield alongside a 6, or on the RHS of a 3.

Anyway probably even more important for him is that he isnt constantly shunted about from one position to another. Pearson's treatment of Sykes might raise a few flags, given he shoehorned him in to the team as a RWB initially. Maybe Knight will be used as a RWB again (I actually think if he concentrated on that position he could do very well there and it is a position Ireland will need players in pretty soon).

You're probably right about a club whose billionaire owner claims to have invested £250m there and now wants out. But Bristol is a big city with a population of over 700,000 and an attractive candidate for future growth with the right filthy rich owner. I'm not sure Knight is the ignition for such movement but he might catch a wave.

Copy and paste here from the esteemed Bristol Live:

Just a minute into the second period, Knight doubled his tally and gave the Robins a two-goal cushion, with Roberts setting him up brilliantly to claim his second assist of the game on his debut. Knight followed up his brace with an assist to put the cherry on top of a stellar display as Nakhi Wells then proceeded to round James Beadle in goal and put City firmly in the driving seat.

Knight was substituted alongside Joe Williams and Andy King on the 61st minute, with one of their replacements Kal Naismith, who made his return from injury, instantly burying a fifth for City with his first couple of touches.

It was a day for the new boys on BS3 as Roberts and Knight stole the show, with a special mention going to 17-year-old Ephraim Yeboah who came on for the final 20 minutes to make his senior debut after signing a professional contract this summer.

He played as an attacking midfielder in a 4-2-3-1. So just behind Nahki Wells.
