I do think we'll see a boost in performance and confidence with players like Knight and Cullen who dropped off a bit in the last year. The players were very supportive of Kennny but poor results have to have taken a toll on them.
Knight always has that ability like Brown to pop up with a goal.

Knight has been captaining Bristol City these last couple of games. Good for him. 32yo Matty James had been captain, but has dropped to the bench, not sure if injury related.

I'm a big fan of Jason's but I don't see any talk of him attracting interest from Premier League clubs. Is top end Championship gonna end up being his level?

I dont see him making any real impact in the PL. If top end Championship is his level then thats ok. He can still be a fine player.

Think he will end up at least like Hourihane. Can definitely get into the PL but will it be a long term thing? He’s still young so time on his side and Bristol are having a fine season. Do wonder if he kicked on from Derby like Ebosele did would he have been better off. It’s nice to see the Bristol move workout for him at least.

I don't think he possesses the technical quality to play in the PL, but agree that he could find himself playing a season or two up there as part of a promoted side.

Bristol City got a bargain. Knight is on contract until 2027 , on a reported £15,000 a week, one of the club’s current best paid players. His compatriots Mark Sykes ( reported to be on £9,808 a week ) and Max O’Leary ( £1923 a week) are on a lot less but their contracts run out a bit sooner so they are likely to get much improved terms from City or their next club if they continue current form. These reported figures may or may not be bollocks but Knight was brought in to replace Alex Scott who was transferred to Bournemouth for around £25 million. Scott has hardly kicked a ball in the PL due to injuries but Knight has been more than an adequate replacement. I think he will make the PL eventually. Sykes too, he would have had multiple caps for NI by now if he had not switched.

Knight has a lot of experience for 22. I don't see a significant shortcoming in his technical side to say he can't carve out a Premiership career. He definitely needs to improve his back to goal play under pressure and figure out how his goals and assists are short of where they should be, given it occurred at League One level too. At 22, however, he could yet significantly enhance those areas - albeit, they are quite fundamental for his position so maybe I'm understating the work he needs to do. Being at League One for the year at 21 was bad timing as his years at 18-20 were all quite fruitful in terms of game time and experience.
Thing is, though, that the upper Championship level isn't a whole pile off lower Premiership. Look at the players Leicester, Leeds and Southampton retained. And look at those that Burnley, Sheffield United and Luton brought up. There's an argument the former outstrips the latter in terms of quality. There are probably similar instances at the likes of Fulham and Bournemouth of players that have better counterparts in the upper Championship tier. Hopefully he can push up to that level but needs honing certain aspects this season or next to make it sustainable at that level, I would argue.

Rooney just sacked by Birmingham having lost 9 of the 15 games he was there for. Highlights how poor Jason's decision to remain with Derby for the year in the third division was - a year spent being shuttled around in various positions, with possibly sub-optimal coaching.

Rooney wasn't the Derby manager last season when Knight was there, Paul Warne was.

A better example would have been Ebosele, who Rooney dropped and froze out at Derby when he chose to leave for Udinese instead of staying with Derby who were heading for League One. Rooney was on record numerous times telling the media he thinks hes made the wrong decision heading to Italy and he'd be better off in England / Derby. Look at the lad now, nailed on starter for mid table Serie A side, enjoying the life over there in a new culture learning the language. Senior Irish international ...the lad hasn't a notion as a manager.
