Jason Knight - 8

Two goals and a performance of pure tenacity and also ingenuity in the way he picked his moments, and analysed the space to arrive late into the penalty area and trouble the scoreboard. It's impossible to overlook the narrative that as Alex Scott looks bound for Bournemouth, the Irishman provides that missing attacking thrust from midfield.

Jason Knight - 9

An outstanding display. Made two difficult chances look easy with his two goals and played a part in City’s fourth, too. Popped up all over the pitch and was a key part of City dominating the midfield. An exciting addition.

Hopefully this is finally the start of Knight becoming the player I think he can be - which is the first name on the teamsheet in midfield for us. The last two years at Derby have been a disaster for him, playing at right back in League 1 half the time last season. He was far too loyal to a club that has shown in the past that it doesn't deserve players' loyalty.

Highlights of the 5-1 win.

The highlights make Knight look like the second coming of Paul Scholes.
Long may it continue.

14 goals during his entire Derby career. Now 2 goals already at Bristol.

That will do his confidence a world of good going into a new season with a new club and a new lease of life.
But lets not get carried away just yet. It was a league cup match with a Championship team against a middling League One team. He need to replicate this side of his game a lot more
Took his goals well but what was important was the positions he was getting into centrally at the edge of the box, either holding his position there for knock downs or making a late run into that position.
In seasons gone Knight would not be in taking up those positions, he would be off running himself to the ground around in other areas. Hopefully he plays regulary in that advanced midfield role rather than being slung around different roles and positions but also hopefully he is a bit more selfish in his play, looks to get on the end of knock downs and crosses in the box to get more reward for the general effort he usually puts into every match he plays.

Looks like he is getting rave reviews from Bristol fans today. Good to see!
Looks like he was playing a midfield 3 from the line ups I saw which is even better. His workrate and ability to get up the pitch from deep makes it his best position for me. Never got that Derby so often played him as a no 10. (or even RB...)

He's excellent. Wasted two years at Derby getting shifted around in a relegation battle and again in League 1. Watched a good bit of that game today and he was flying. Great to see him back on form.

Excellent without the ball last night until he ran out of steam having played the full 90 in France (shouldnt have). However the fact he won the MotM award sums us up as a nation, he created one chance the entire game and his work on the ball was limited.

He carried the ball forward well on quite a few occasions showing good footwork and tidy passing - the workhorse trope with regards to Knight is a lazy one, he's a skillful player. Browne is a worker, Knight is not the same.
We're decent enough..

Dont agree, will watch it again, can be difficult to take it all in live. His work rate was admirable and he played well, but he didnt do enough on the ball, he was playing as the most advanced of the three midfielders and he just didnt do enough in forward areas. His passing is safe - I think his best position is as a box to box 8 and I'd like to see him play there consistently for us. He needs to get forward in support of the front men more often both at club and national level.

Thought he was more box to box 8 than anywhere else for most of the game if I'm honest.

seems to be performing very well, below is the reaction from the local paper,

You kind of end up writing the same stuff about Knight but he’s just so good, so often and his baseline most games is at such a high level. After a strong first 45 in which he drove the Robins forward, he was a man possessed in the second. He eternally seemed like the first man available to receive a pass, and then the next man making the run beyond, such was his presence. He also, of course, provided the third goal with a deflected strike from the edge of the box.
