Better going up than going down imo! Southampton may well have a PL future to look forward to, I dont see one for Sheffield United and certainly not for Luton. Twould be a good move for Manning imo given he would be working under Russell Martin again who clearly has a lot of time for him.

Southampton would be there better long term move. They should come straight back up and be in a position to stay up. Russell Martin as manager too.

Unless one or both are being sold then you'd expect Livramento and Walker Peters to be their starting FBs like they were for the 21/22 season.
They also spent €7m on a LB from City's academy last summer and €12m on Perraud two years ago. Surprised they're in for Manning even with Russell Martin having worked with him at Swansea. |

Wages would be better too and a tidy signing on fee as there’s no transfer fee involved.

Livramento and KWP are both natural right backs, are they not? I'd expext Manning to get his place at LWB ahead of them.

Livramento is linked with Newcastle who have bid for him. Southampton want a bigger fee.
Perraud would make way for Manning at LB/LWB. Larios is still young and unproven.

A lot of our players are getting good moves this summer, and this would be another.
Southampton will surely go straight back up.

Good move for him. Would be great for us if he could kick on from his latest form.

Russell Martin claiming Manning turned down two Premier League clubs to go to Southampton. With him, Bazunu and Smallbone all at Southampton next season it will make them an interesting team to follow from an Irish point of view.

I think Luton and Sheffield Utd are the two PL teams he turned down. Probably felt he had as much or more chance of PL football next season with Southampton than either one of these but the main factor for him may well have been a manager he knows and who rates him very highly. No idea what his main position will be as his versatility is one of the reasons Martin is signing him but he should have a good season ahead.

Mannings final stats for last season were impressive. Top 10 in 18 different metrics, mostly attacking/creative. 5 goals 108 Key Passes (1st) 10 Assists (joint 2nd) 11.4 Expected Assists (2nd) 11.5 xAssisted Goals (2nd) 21 Goal Creating Actions (2nd) 72 Passes into Pen Area (2nd) 95 Fouls Drawn (2nd) 354 Crosses (2nd) 0.28 xAssisted Goals/90 (3rd) 0.28 xAssists/90 (3rd) 340 Progressive Passes Received (4th) 135 Corner Kicks (4th) 179 Shot Creating Actions (5th) 3307 Touches (5th) 0.51 Goal Creating Actions/90 (8th) 24 Crosses into Pen Area (8th) 11 Yellow Cards (8th) 4.35 Shot Creating Actions/90 (9th) Russell Martin also talked up Mannings character and how he's a good head to have in the dressing room. Telling that one of the first things he did upon getting the Southampton gig was to get Manning in the door.

He played well, Smallbone also very good in midfield. Excellent possession football. Bazunu had little to do, could do nothing about the goal but his distribution was first rate.

Livramento has now gone to Newcastle. Good opening day performance from Ryan - I'd say he's made the right choice.

Not watching the game but the fans over on Saints Web seem less than convinced by Manning so far. A lot of comments about a mistake a game and him being quite limited.
