Couldn’t find the old thread so I’ve opened a new one. Treated very badly by Steve McClaren last season but finished the season back in the 1st team after a very impressive loan spell at Rotherham

Has made the most of the injury to Lee Wallace and has played all pre season and league games since Mark Warburton took over and has made the left full back spot his own scoring the equalizer from the spot against Bristol City on Tuesday and converting the first spot kick in the shootout.

Has a wand of a left foot and has had 2 assists from set pieces so far. Hopefully gets a call up on Friday.

Mark Warburton has been impressed with the form of Ryan Manning at left-back and admits he has staked his claim to continue in the position when Lee Wallace returns from injury.

Manning equalised from the spot for his side against Bristol City in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night and has started at left-back in every game so far this season, putting in some impressive performances.

Wallace is currently building up his fitness after missing pre-season but Warburton says he has been delighted with how Manning has performed since being given the chance.

"Ryan Manning has grabbed the shirt, I've said that from the very first minute of pre-season" he said.

"Ryan Manning has stepped up, taken the shirt and has really staked a claim and has done outstandingly well.

"I like the fact he plays with a smile on his face. He's enjoying what he's doing, he's working hard in training.

"He's a young player with a strong technical base, good physicality in terms of athleticism and he enjoys his football.

"I'm delighted to see him do well, delighted for his contribution to the team and Lee knows that he doesn't get that shirt back easily.

"Lee's a very, very talented player. When you've played at the level that he's played at and played in the games that he's played in, he'll bring a real quality to the squad undoubtedly."

If he is struggling to get ahead of Lee Wallace he can’t be that good!

Well by the sound of things he's in the position and playing well. Who's to say he won't continue to be picked at left back? It would be great to see him doing well and getting a good extended run.

He’s not struggling to replace Lee Wallace who hasn’t played a game yet . The manager has heaped praise on him since he took the job.

seen him a few times for the u21 looked to have really good 1st touch and decent turn of pace looks like hes progressing well. surely should be at least a squad option similar to cullen.

Manning not being included in the 40 man squad at the least is a strange decision for me.

He played a decent amount of football last season and Is now putting in some decent performances at a decent level.

You could fire off a number of players in the squad that youd have manning ahead of.

Yeah agreed. Especially as he can play a number of roles and is regularly starting in something of a problem position for

As GUFCT said if he was English there would be an outcry for him to be selected.  Maybe that's why he is changing his accent.

I am surprised by Mick McCarthy tbh.  He is normally one to boost players but then sl*gged off Obafemi.
Manning should be in the provisional squad at the least instead of lads who couldn't give a toss about the EIRE.

McClean, Christie, Cunningham are or have played there too.

If you look at some of the other defenders, some of those could also slot in and do a job.

The fact McClean and Christie are being offered as left back options would indicate it is a problem position.

He's an average player from what I've seen, good engine and a decent set piece taker but not a huge amount beyond that. There's a reason why he's been in and out of a pretty poor QPR side over the past few years rather than definitively tying down a place.

Well McClean is playing left back or left wing back for his club, and not Ireland, so hypothetically he could play for Ireland in this position in the case of injuries.

Christie did a decent enough job covering for Coleman whilst injured.

Bottom line is that Manning is playing a position where there is a lot of cover.

He was the best player on the park the handful of times i saw him in the flesh for the 21s, that included Rice and Cullen

Ryan signed for QPR in January 2015 as an 18 year old and although he struggled in his first season he has made 79 appearances in the championship including 22 while on loan with Rotherham last season he has played every minute of every game for QPR who are not struggling as per your post they have 7 ltd and Ryan has been acknowledged as the best player so far.

He was a revelation in the u21s and I don’t know how many games the o’Shea has seen Ryan bar highlights on TV. I know Ryan for years and it’s not just his talent that got him noticed .

Surely Mick would have given him a whirl if there was that much buzz. It's a fact that Sadlier got a call up purely on the back of a recommendation. Hasn't watched a minute of him in the flesh, so find it hard to believe Manning went under the radar.

Is there anyone missing from the 40 man panel who really should be there?

Was thinking he would be there as he was at London roissc we’re celebrating 35 years on the road. Ryan played well again but joe Lumley meant it was a tougher day at the office for QPR . We’re on a real good run at the moment and Ryan has been consistently one of our best players.

Have just been reading some QPR forums and they are saying Manning has been their best player this year and cannot understand why he isn't in the Ireland squad. They said especially so after playing Blackburn at the weekend and seeing how awful Williams,, Cunningham and Lenihan were.

he’s playing out of position at left back but has played every minute of every game this season and was motm in many. Could be paying the price for being so versatile but covers so many positions he would be a great squad player.

Can’t help but feel his time is coming. At 23 there is a lot of potential, and hopefully he can develop further.

Good timing for Manning to come through. Left back is a troublesome position at underage levels, and Stevens is pushing 30. He’s a good prospect and challenger for the job at senior level.

Funnily enough, I remember Ian Holloway saying a couple of years back that he could see Manning as a left back in the Seamus Coleman mode (having managed both of them). Here’s hoping he’s right.

Yeah, but he also blamed VAR on the EU...

Made it to Wembley and won the play offs that year, Coleman was outstanding at right back for the Tangerines.
Holloway led them into the Premier League first time they'd been in the top flight since the Stan Mortensen/Les Shannon days.

Great to hear for Manning.

Just found this recent interview:  http://youtu.be/SucbL0b-Fho" rel="nofollow - https://youtu.be/SucbL0b-Fho

He's definitely picked up a bit of the local twang.

These things are like ''updates on Mick McCarthy's thinking'' - think we can take it as a given that both will be called up for next squad and probably play some part V NZ, whatever about Denmark.

Not seen him play since he left Galway really but QPR are doing well this year and he has attracted some interest from the Prem  or what you hear .
Will that make him an international I very much doubt it .
Same with all these threads people just roll the dice hoping that he is THE ONE the make the difference so far on the whole that hasn't worked very well .

Championship is his level, will never be good enough for International level.

Is this not the attitude that has us in the predicament that we find ourselves in?

I'd rather an inform Championship player than a Premier League player who is struggling at the bottom of the table.
