Tons of effort and always gets under the oppositions skin. Sometimes that can actually help. In the past, Naismith's moaning **** persona and arguing over almost every rough challenge has led to us getting free kicks that led to goals or else got other players booked or sent off. In a team with such limited ability, you need players like that. I bet you guys would have loved him if he was Irish ! Wales actually tried to get him once. He has a Welsh born grandparent. When he was about eighteen or nineteen, they named him in their U21 squad but he wasn't interested.

I'd say every Irish fan thought the same about him after the Euro 2016 qualifiers

What could the ramifications be if Russia actually gets excluded from the tournament? Would it go to the highest ranked team that hasn't qualified, highest ranked host, Scotland, or a team of Russians playing under a name that isn't Russia like the past Olympics?

It would also mean they'd lose the right to host their bit of it. Messy!

I would imagine it would be something wacky like all non-qualified hosts would play against each other.

Azerbaijan could still host by buying a team of Russians playing under a name that isn't Russia.

In terms of hosting: If it happens before the draw, you'd imagine they'll simply ask the Polish or, maybe, the French to stand in. They're both close(ish) to Copenhagen, aren't already hosts, have appropriate stadiums and aren't in the same seeding pot as the Danes. From the other sides already qualified, Belgium don't have a good enough stadium, Ukraine is too far away, Switzerland don't have a big enough stadium and both issues apply to Croatia. If Portugal are bumped up to third seeds, they'd also be available as hosts, but again probably too far away. Wales is probably too far (plus there are already three stadiums in these islands) and the Finland stadium isn't up to much. So all that being the case, I'd say the preferences are Poland, followed by France, followed (in a distant third) by Portugal or Ukraine. In terms of a team getting in: the closest precedent is 1992. Then, the next side in the Yugoslav qualifying group were Denmark and they got in. The downside in this case is that Scotland are the next side down in the qualifiers. No idea how to fix that, cos it messes with them being hosts. If the Russians are kicked out after the draw, it may necessitate some manner of re-draw.

I'd agree with Dave. Probably looking at Warsaw or Paris.
Is there a chance the Swedes or Danes can get bumped up a pot ? Would open up Stockholm as a venue then

Doubt they come to a resolution in a week so it will probably be post-draw. Hope the FAI fight for a tournament of hosts that haven't qualified or something instead of rolling over to letting a terrible Scotland side in.

It's not rolling over. If an automatic qualifier can't compete in the tournament it's the next team in the qualifying group that takes their place. As Denmark did in Euro 92. Doubt you'd be holding this attitude if Russia had been in our group

Not codified and doesn’t happen enough for a real precedent. I’d at least try.

One of the host qualifying criteria was that a host city has to have an airport with 2 terminals. A reason why Cardiff lost out. |

Does Warsaw? They have 2 airports and I think the main one has 2 terminals

Two airports or one airport with two terminals. Allegedly to keep fans separated but I doubt that. I imagine it was more to make sure there could be one terminal for fans and one terminal for UEFA grandees, tbh.

Very simple to fix, give Russia place to the highest rank host nation from the nations league that did not qualify automatically...wonder who that could be!
