He's a dead cert to miss out. Hopefully this paves a way for Cullen to start, our only in form midfielder and possibly player at present

McCarthy is 100% out as far as I know. Hodgson said he won't be back
Eamonn Dunphy:"I'll tell you who wrote it, Rod Liddle, he's the guy who ran away and left his wife for a young one".

Bill O'Herlihy: Ah ye can't be saying that now Eamonn

Is McCarthy not already ruled out?
Even if he is available he'll have no games in the legs.  That slot has to be Cullen's now.

Connolly is my biggest worry.  Offers that spark of hope that he can do something but I'd say he's a 50/50 chance.

Leaving the squad announcement until late makes sense with how our injuries are going.  Otherwise it's liable to be changing daily.

I think kenny is approaching this correctly considering the options.

The squad is going to have players like horgan who is struggling to play games at a terrible wycombe team that will be relegated. I did think horgan was ok for us when he played but he's not a good player.

Giving mccarthy etc who are injury doubts the chance to make the team.

Easily got around.  E mail goes to every club that has an Irish player
That might be in the squad saying that your player may be called up to the Ireland squad.   Job done.

there is a full round of championship games on the 16th and 17th so makes sense to wait until they are played.   The championship has probably more relevance to the manager than the premier league.   Why name on the Monday and then find changing as played get injured on the Tuesday or Wednesday night.

Are Serbia the benchmark.  What’s the benefit to Serbia that they named it so early.

It makes far more sense that you wait until the very last minute that you have to name it and the same with the team.  What he privately does with the players is a different matter.

I can’t see any negatives to naming it as late as possible and as a result only including players who are fit and available as close to the game as possible.

Good idea. Never knew why they name squad earlier than they have to.  Makes sense to give as much time as possible for someone to be fit or match fit etc.  rather than unnecessary chopping and changing.

He won't name his squad until the 18th. 6 days before the game.

Connolly: What do you mean? I wasn't listening at the start, there. I was chatting to Adam.
