That's right. And we accuse the English of hyping up their players. There literally were people saying he was the next Gareth Bale because he looked like him.

Kenny McEvoy.

Maybe it just seems this way because I pay more attention to Irish players, but a lot of our lot really struggle to fulfil their promise. Having to go away at such a young age is a huge factor, which is why our dear leader should be being pressed about football development here and not f**king tickets.

Completely agree. I see Stephen Elliot on Twitter saying that he'll be in the Spurs first team soon. Tagged Parrott in the post. People need to calm down  and let the kid develop without this kind of pressure.

Elliott was another that never got the highs expected of him. Was unlucky with injury whereas stokes and Byrne seem to be masters of their own downfall.at least stokes will have made a few bob for himself.

Not after he pays off Elvis!

as an irish-American following the team from afar, I think part of the "issue" in terms of perception/pressure/etc that's been discussed last few pages is these lads get intensive coverage for a brief period of time that's maybe over the top. parrott right now is the example, but think of conor masterson on bench for Liverpool last year. sure it is a great step in his progression and we are all rooting for all of them to fulfill their potential but they get articles in all the papers/websites, interviews on RTE, etc its a lot. as tough as it is, rather than hoping they are the "next bale" or "next keane," we should just be enthused that they are making quantifiably positive steps (ie parrott continuing to score for club and country) and avoid building expectations so high that failure to become one of the best irish players in a generation is a failure

It's great we have a striker with such great potential coming through . It's promising to hear pochettino talk about him and already rate him . But yes he has a long way to go before he becomes a premier league striker .
