Cirkin's eligible for about 5 countries, and I'd hazard a guess we're probably the one he has the least connection to; so I'd say he's a long shot alright.

Is he born to English parents or Irish? Really weird to see someone born in Ireland playing for another country!

Born in Ireland but moved when he was 3, so his personal link is non existent.

if he was born here today with non Irish parents he would not qualify for a passport. He will either play for England or the country of his parents or Grandparents. At best we would be 3rd choice IMO.

Little connection to Ireland, but still plenty more substantial than EIRE loving Michael Obafemi for instance.

How so? Surely nigh on identical situations only one of them actually played underage football through the grades?

at 3 he has no real memories of Ireland. He currently plays for England and apparently that is more lucrative than playing for Ireland.
One would assume he had visited his grandparents home at some stage of his life and his family socialise with people from the country of his parents and he is fluent in that language. We had a referendum a few years ago to prevent illegal heavily pregnant women flying in giving birth and the whole family coul legally stay as a their was an Irish citizen in their family. For a child to qualify for a passport born on the Island one parents or Grandparents must have a passport.

Well that's nonsense. How someone feels about their Irishness has no bearing on their ability to attain a passport; if you're born here you're entitled to one no matter what your feelings are. You're conflating two entirely different things here; the law that changed was that a childs non-Irish family were no longer automatically entitled to Irish citizenship; however, the child born here has remained absolutely entitled to Irish citizenship, any other situation would be downright racist and logically incoherent.

Seriously ill-informed post. A kid born in Ireland has no right to an Irish passport - have heard it all now! |

I never meant to start a Cirkin for Ireland campaign and debate on his Irishness which is pretty irrelevant. I was merely pointing out that the OP was mistaken and Mourinho was not talking about Troy Parrott in the clip.

In cases where at least one parent was an Irish citizen born in the island of Ireland or an Irish citizen resident abroad in the public service, citizenship is automatic and dates from birth. In all other cases citizenship is subject to registration in the Foreign Births Register.
There is case not to long ago where the government are trying to deport an Asian kid and his family as they hav exhausted a appeals. The kid was 8 and never outside the 26 counties Edited by Missy - 30 Nov 2019 at 1:20pm |
