Always struggled mentally due to various factors as I have spoke about on here before, had a major breakdown myself over the Christmas period, seriously contemplated taking my own life, I had a plan to go through with it one night, I sat and looked at photos of my daughter and couldn't do it. As it would destroy her, Spoke to my counsellor about it who had me taken to a care institution up here, im not long out but still none the better. In fact in that place would almost make you feel worse. Fill you full of tablets and you don't know whats going on. I try to be positive but its a complex thing the way the mind works. Sometimes I accept I have this and other days Im to exhausted to live with it, Without my daughter I know id be long gone. |
I'm sorry to hear you're not feeling well. The fact that you're posting about how you're feeling seems positive. Also well done on taking it to the counselor and speaking about it. You're taking steps to get sorted which is very brave and so many people don't do that. It's a journey you're on, so don't rush it and keep up the counselling.
One of my friends lost his older brother to suicide about 14 years ago. Since then, he set up this online community called Turn2me to help other people who might be struggling a bit with mental health. They run an excellent service so please do check in here.

Technology generally has revolutionised bullying. The term cyber-bullying has to be a recent addition to our lexicon, and it’s not just social media. Cheap and ubiquitous mobile technology meant that while the bully was often left behind in the workplace or in the schoolyard, it now followed the bullied party home as they were now in reach.
Social media was like a match to this as bullying became totally unregulated and off campus, and as a result often beyond jurisdiction. Concepts like revenge porn, doxing etc are all new forms of bullying, and extend on the more traditional verbal, physical bullying and threats.
Social Media and mental health concerns are undoubtedly linked.

I was being flippant, of course, but I certainly disagree with your last line that people are educated about it. I would say it is the complete opposite. There is an acceptance alright, but very little sympathy and close to no empathy at all. Very few people actually want to deal with mental health, they just pay lip service. Until that changes, and that comes from society and individuals within it, we are going nowhere.

Social Media 100%, If you make a tit out of yourself on a night out, like we all do at some stages in our lives, the whole town could be getting videos and pics of it, there are no secrets anymore. The thoughts of something like this and getting publicly humiliated can be the worst thing imaginable to some people, it affects different people differently. Another thing is if a young lad gets in a fight with friends, much easier for them to isolate and exclude him from group chats/plans etc. Have a bit of experience of the affect it can cause a teenager in my own house. It's a different world even from when I was that age about 6 years ago!

And I was extending on the point I made above. I believe there is a need for it, in fact I believe it is vital, that we all start dealing with real problems instead of repeatedly stating the obvious, which your statement very much does.

I missed Dev's post and Cafu actually went into a little bit of detail. I felt your post was merely pointing out the obvious, which I feel is a huge part of the problem.
By the way, just to address your last point: no f**king sh*t Sherlock!

Not sure if this is worthy of this thread to be honest but something that might be concerning. I have no idea.
A few weeks ago I had a really uncomfortable dream, no idea what it was about bar some very, very vague detail. Later on in the day, i was at a sort of conference for work and there were a couple of lads on stage talking away, and something they said obviously triggered a memory of the dream, and it led to what I can only describe as utter dread, panic, nausea and light headedness for about 10 seconds. I had to put the head down between my legs to get myself together.
It has happened no less than 4 times since (so in the last 4 weeks maybe) but it has happened 3 or 4 times in the last few days. The first time, I was just getting breakfast. Grabbing a tea bag, a cup and I became hyper aware of myself (Sorry, it's quite difficult to verbalise it and that's as close as I can get). The same feelings came back and I had to sit down. I just remember saying to myself "Jesus f**king Christ".
Happened yesterday evening. It woke me up this morning. And it happened again when I was just having a cup of tea and watching the Simpsons on YouTube this morning! So every time it has been a different reason seemingly. At least I can't put my finger on what's triggering it. It's absolutely horrible and it's genuinely frightening when it happens.
I've never had a panic attack, so I have no idea if that's what it is or not. No idea why it's happening now. Life is generally very good for me, comfortable. Work is good etc.

They finally did it man... They killed my f**kin' car...
