Monday i think

If City get a point tonight to win the group they can only face Atletico Madrid, Ajax, Schalke or Roma

VAR to be used in the knockout stages

Liverpool Napoli. 2 serious sides. Awful pity if one of these go out in the end, especially if it's Napoli as they have probably been the best side in the group so far by a good bit. Liverpool will have to hit the heights of last seasons performances to get it done tonight. Will be a joy to watch Liverpools attack try to break down Koulibalys defence. This guy is something else. 2 of the top few CBs in the world at opposite ends tonight imo.

Hamsik is the key for me though. Liverpool need to go back to massive pressure high up the pitch and hound Hamsik every time he touches the ball. If he gets time on the ball he'll kill Liverpool eventually. If Liverpool stop him, which I'd expect them to be all over him, they should get the foothold they need to carry them through.

Thought he was extremely poor last night. Gave the ball away a lot, even when not being pressured that much.

He has been average for a couple of years now.

Zielinski is a better player.

Wouldn't agree with that at all. Hamsik is still a top quality player. Liverpool just hounded him last night. Napoli had little time in midfield to pick passes and set their own tempo. Hamsik was very good all of last season for Napoli in what was exceptionally close to being a title winning season. Although he was hauled off in almost every game for Zielinski around the 70 mins mark, which I always presumed was a recurring injury issue.
"I called him an embarrassment to FIFA and to himself," .... He said 'No-one speaks to me like that'.... and I said, "well I do' and that was that."

Watched a lot of Napoli last season and he certainly wasn't very good. Had a good season the year before but he has been average in 17/18 and for most of what I have seen of him this season too.

Bookies still have Man City as the favs

Man City 4/1
Barca
Juve.
PSG
Liverpool 8/1

I think Barca will win it this year, beating an English team in the final.
I can see Liverpool and City getting to the 1/2 final.

Ajax and their new generation of youngsters against a Bayern team that seems on decline. This is the only game worth watching the rest of the groups are fairly straight forward.

Porto topped their group with 16 points, albeit a weak enough group but still impressive number of points. Has anyone followed them in the CL?

What's the reasoning behind teams from the same country avoiding each other in the second round?

Money.  Keep as many big television audiences apart for as long as possible.

Is literally the right answer. This isn't PM being a conspiracy theorist (for a change Wink). It is actually the right answer.

UEFA are money grubbing arseholes and the longer they can keep sides from the same country apart, the longer they will, because filthy, filthy lucre.

I can't think of many conspiracy theories I believe in. I do believe there is a lot of smoke and mirrors regarding anything where money is involved, or cynical for want of a better word, but it hardly makes me David Icke.

True. Conspiracy is the wrong word.
