RTE have a bigger team out there for the knockout as there'll be more viewers. They thought it was a waste of cash to have commentators out there when most of the games were on during working hours with low viewership. Also, for group stage with more games, if commentors are in Russia they can onyl do a game every second day (with travel). The comms staying home could do a game every game. In the knockout, there's less games to be covered

any body elses RTE 2 coverage unwatchable ( and I don't mean the content) all the irish channels are poor except RTE 1 - I know different groups know they are broadcast on different frequencies but I assume the weather is to blame . Its blank on the upstair TV and pixaliated downstairs (aerial picking up Saorview on a PVR box )
