Didi already pencilled in for the semi final and final as Ze Germans are bound to get there despite their recent poor run.

Where the fcuk is Souness? He must have stormed out and refused to work with a woman with a very silly name who might interrupt him mid flow.

With Given,Dunne and Duff it's like the team of 2002. No Kenny Cunningham though, as he never could provide evidence to Dunphy of whatever he was supposed to and Gary Breen still banished to the joke shop that is Eir sport.

Nordie MON will have to be reconfigured to liking everything about the Eire before coverage commences.

It's a tough one - both moments were pure tv gold. The Neymar swearing might just shade it on account of the apology as Denis says and of course O'Herlihy's reaction.

Horrible woman, Hope Solo.
I still remember her throwing a hissy fit after the 2011 Womens' World Cup final because she had to go up to collect the Goalkeeper of the Tornament award.  Or her sourgrapes after losing to Sweden on penalties in the 2016 Olympics.  Not to mention her attempted games(wo)manship in changing her gloves and delaying Sweden's last penalty in the shoot-out.

For all of Dunphy's faults and shameful personal criticism of Irish managers/players over the last 30 years, he at least out came out with some belters over the years.

I would take him anyday over the dry as a nuns tit  Saturday soccer crowd on sky and the plate scraping humour of Shearer/Lineker on MOTD.

Imagine Dunphy coming out with Liddle and the ' young wan' jibe on football focus LOL

The Liddle one and calling Niall Quinn above all people a creep was comedy gold. Nothing will top that along with Venables and little Paddyland LOLLOL

couple of mis-spoken moments. Poland got called Portugal in POL v SEN and just before kick-off of RUS v ARE Ger Canning said 1986 was the last time Egypt qualified for WC "...1986 a long time ago". I felt he knew he was saying something inaccurate as he was saying it.

Assuming has swapped with Beglin or Houghton...no chance Ger is in Russia in the middle of GAA season
He is. Out there for this, Belgium/Japan on Monday, and a QF next Friday.

RTE have a bigger team out there for the knockout as there'll be more viewers. They thought it was a waste of cash to have commentators out there when most of the games were on during working hours with low viewership.

Also, for group stage with more games, if commentors are in Russia they can onyl do a game every second day (with travel). The comms staying home could do a game every game. In the knockout, there's less games to be covered

who is rte’s number 1 now? Is it still Georgie boy? Like him myself, can’t stand houghton or whelan as co though. No insights just oooh and aaah  and telling you what a good/bad shot you just saw.

any body elses RTE 2 coverage unwatchable ( and I don't mean the content) all the irish channels are poor except RTE 1 - I know different groups know they are broadcast on different frequencies but I assume the weather is to blame . Its blank on the upstair TV and pixaliated downstairs (aerial picking up Saorview on a PVR box )

'Irish' Songs for an Irish team - no SPL EPL generic sh*te

Ger Canning, who has got some of the best matches including hopefully, Japan's Victory against the Cheating Belgian Skanks who did us by skull duggery, several times, is really meant to be commentating on bog ball, which he is excellent at, rather than the beautiful game!

Mark Pougatch will be on RTE for the final on Sunday, instead of Darragh Moloney.

Maloney is better than him too. Pougatch is one of those new 'matey' presenters that act like an uncle that thinks they are down with the kids and great 'bantz'.

Maloney is sh*te I think.  Too wooden and non controversial.  Doesn't stir the pot like Bill.

English coverage is sh*te too but ITV's has improved and has overtaken the BBC with their trendy bar dress code and studio.

Des Lynam and Steve Rider and Elton Welsby would be turning in their graves if they were dead

Is Jim Rosenthal still on the go?

The worst thing about ITVs coverage is that creepy bastard Gabriel Clarke. He isn't sure if he's presenting a report from the England camp or a murder mystery suspense show the way he gets on.

Think he went back to his job of being The Count on Sesame Street.

Missed Hope Solo. She must have only done 1 or 2 games while I was away.  Any good?

I wasn't saying Maloney was good, more a criticism of Pougatch.
Rosenthal was great, liked his grandson in Friday Night Dinner too.
