Horgan is a better player than Burke; if he can't get into the team, it's hard to see Burke faring any better.

He has licence to roam behind the striker, he's not a winger by any stretch of the imagination. He has the natural intelligence to drift into the spaces between midfield and up top and that's where he's at his best. He can be hard to mark because of his intelligence in taking up positions.

Horgan is a completely different player to Burke. The only similarity between them is they're Irish and both at Preston.

He'd be more like Callum Robinson, who will be his main competition. I only mentioned Horgan as I meant he'd probably be finding it hard to see game time like him, rather than slotting right in like Maguire did. I just dont think this will be a good move for him.

You might want to look up the definition of "completely different". A goalkeeper would be "completely different" to an attacking player; Burke and Horgan would realistically be competing for 1 of 4 attacking places in Preston's side, so they aren't that different... In any case, difference does not make comparison impossible, and Horgan is the better player IMO.

Horgan is better at some aspects, Burke is better at others. If you’re talking natural ability, Burke hands down. John Terry is a better defender than Ronaldo, doesn’t make him a better player .

I would disagree with that, I think Horgan has plenty of natural talent of his own. The Terry/Ronaldo example is a trite one; Terry is a centre-back, Ronaldo is a striker/winger. In any case, although Terry may be a better defender, absolutely no one would argue he's a better footballer.... Horgan and Burke are both attackers, and Horgan is the better attacker by a reasonable distance in my view.

Horgan is meant to be going on loan to Rochdale according to some PNE folks...

That would be an absolutely atrocious move, he's going on 26 years old... He needs to be playing Championship football, or at the very least high-end L1 football.

Tbh I'm suprised Alex Neil is even playing as many Irish players as he does, 100% if Horgan was Scottish he would be a starter

Nonsense comment. Horgan has been a bit of a disappointment since his cross channel move. There were calls to cap him ahead of Aiden McGeady by the likes of Kevin Kilbane when he first moved. Don't think he's up to international level from what I've seen of him. |

I think Horgan has been pretty decent since going to Preston actually. His first 6 months were good, albeit he was outshined by an outstanding McGeady. He's hardly got a chance this season off Neil, mainly being restricted to cameos. His Ireland appearances have been reasonably impressive too IMO. He's certainly Championship standard, a move to Rochdale would be an absolute joke.

The Preston fans seem to think that Horgan is a good player but doesn’t fit the system they play as they line out with attacking midfielders as their wide players.
Which is why the likes of Callum Robsinon shines for them and possibly why Graham Burke will be bought. Horgan is a fine player in my opinion and has always impressed in his Ireland cameos, he’s comfortably a championship standard player and if he does end up going out on loan then I suspect it will be to a lower championship side rather than league 1. |

Sometimes being an attacking player at struggling Championship club isn't easy. Any transfer is a risk for both parties involved, but I think Horgan would be as well going down a division to a team expecting promotion, if even just for a few months, to show what he can do in an attacking side. Could someone like Sunderland be interested? Surely, if they have any designs to bounce back then he is exactly the quality of player they will need.

Like Andy Boyle, linked recently with a permanent move to League 1 or a return to Ireland, Horgan has struggled with the move up to Championship football - 2 league starts all season tells its own story. The fact he can then walk into a Martin O'Neill Ireland squad, ahead of players like Josh Cullen and Connor Ronan, whose careers appear, conversely, to be in the ascendancy, probably also tells its own story.

Daft comparison. They clearly play in two different positions.

So two players who play in marginally different positions cannot be compared? Ronaldo and Messi play in slightly different positions, so can they not be compared? Burke and Horgan are attackers, they'll likely be competing for the same positions, to refuse to compare them because they're marginally different is ridiculous
