Needs 1st team football, but Van der Sar was 25 before he became first choice at Ajax and can’t sl*g his career

He should go out on loan in January possibly to a championship club.

You almost wouldn't count that one to be honest. Would have put the house on Hourihane to step up and take a crap penalty and he duly delivered yet again.
Great stuff from Kelleher all the same. Saving penalties like his season depended on it. Which it did. |
Hourihane is the sort of player who could get dispossessed in a penalty shootout

When Bazunu was chucking away goals and points against opponents from the pub league week in week out to get his side up to the dizzying heights of mid table, he was hailed as our undisputed No 1, even the goat here. He still is chucking them away like confetti of course in the middle of a relegation battle, and his manager has been sacked for it. When Kelleher is keeping clean sheets against opponents from the pub league, he's told he needs to clear off. Again.
We know he's reliable, for club and country. What we need is for people to believe in him.

zero chance of this happening. Liverpool need him and he'll be there until the end of the season at a minimum

Kelleher plays well in a League Cup tie.
That's great. However, it shouldn't be a surprise. He's done it before.
What exactly has changed in the last 24 months to seriously suggest he is going to become an undisputed No.1 for club or country?
He's still at Liverpool, he's still 2nd choice. Planning is his No.1 fan
No one lacks faith in him. If a law was introduced by Irish Liverpool fans to give him exclusive rights to being first choice for his country for the next 15 years, I don't think many fans would be upset.
However, there was little if anything to suggest he is an improvement over our Current No.1 in the recent games he played for Ireland.
Bazunu saved a penalty for Ireland so we're not exactly lacking in that department either.

Good shout that
In fairness, from the portion of the game I saw (last 15 mins of both halves and peno shoot out), Hourihane looked pretty decent. He showed for the ball and moved it forward quite well.

Final, not finals. You do realise that he didn't actually save a single penalty in The League Cup final, right? He just happened to not be a complete idiot like Kepa who blazed his over the bar.
There is no real relegation battle at this stage of the season. Only 6 points separates Forest (20th) from Brentford (11th). Hassenhütl is the 6th manager to be sacked this season, so there must be a lot of PL goalkeepers who don't like confetti.
You act like Kelleher is regularly keeping cleans sheets. It's 9 from 18 overall. 3 out of 6 in The PL and CL.
Arsenal put 5 past him at Anfield, Villa put 5 past him at Villa Park, Leicester put 3 past him at Anfield. And those are just in The League Cup.
Judging a GK on just clean sheets is a flawed metric. Ederson will regularly win The Golden Glove over Alisson, despite being an inferior GK overall.
Sweeper actions, command of area (high balls), shot stopping, passing accuracy and passing range are what a GK should be judged on.
They're both good goalkeepers in most areas, but Bazunu has a higher ceiling at 20.

Kelleher has now more peno shootout saves than any other keeper in LFC history. If you have an issue with that stat then I will direct your complaints to my colleague who is insisting that it is true.

In your opinion! Mine differs. I like both keepers and I am happy to have them, but Bazunu's move hasnt gone smoothly thus far and he looked short on confidence to me vs Newcastle at the weekend, growing pains perhaps, but he isnt performing well atm. See hereunder.
Just throwing it out there - I think its fair to say that thus far, the move hasnt worked out great for Gavin and with Mc Carthy's heroics last night, he could come under pressure for his first team spot.
'I hate to say it, but the numbers aren’t going to help Gavin Bazunu' (the42.ie)
“He’s in the top five for the amount of shots that he’s faced and yet he’s 15th for the amount of saves he’s made,” said Keegan. “Which all then correlates to one stat which you’re not going to like . . . He’s 22nd for the percentage of shots he’s saved.”
Top of the Premier League for xG prevented is Alisson Becker, with 5.9, so he’s saved almost six goals which in theory he shouldn’t,” Keegan said. Keegan said that Bazunu is last on the xG prevented table, on minus 8.3.

I support Liverpool and thus have watched a lot of Kelleher over the years at U23/U21 level. He's top notch, amazing temperament and composure and brilliant with the ball at his feet. I think he is a better keeper than Bazunu. I dont agree with Planning at all - he tends to denigrate Bazunu, who is a keeper I also rate highly, but whether you like it or not, he's having a poor season thus far and is in real danger of losing his first team spot. That brings me no joy, I'm an Irish fan first and foremost and I want Gav delivering on his undoubted potential - he's just not playing well and looks short on confidence atm.

Wait so Kelleher keeps a clean sheet against league 1 opposition the same league a 19 year old Bazunu was derided for learning his trade and hes all of a sudden back to being the greatest goalie ever. Yeah saved a few pens but Gavin saved a pen against Ronaldo.
Liverpool fan boys are pathetic here slating Bazunu because he isnt their fave, because Kelleher is unambitious enough to be happy as a no2 means he has questions over him too and shouldn't be ireland no1. Not saying Bazunu is perfect but he's doing his bit to improve not resting on his laurels getting wood splinters from sitting on the bench.
I actually like Kelleher think he's a cracking keeper would love to see him as a no1 somewhere.

unbelievable save for the 3rd infairness. CK should push for a move this summer alright though. No real issue with what hes done up til this point. being no.2 at a top 10 club in world football in your early 20s isnt something a lot of gks experience. wouldnt surprise me to see leicester interested in the summer, provided they find an investor. Cant question l'pools development of ck , nor his decision to stay on there until now. he was playing as an outfield player 9 years ago, incredible job done by club + player brining him this far.
