Good post by SD explaining the conundrums the selectors of these things sometimes face. In past years, they have gotten around this by selecting players out of position, but it seems to be going back toward the more traditional theoretical line outs recently.

That in itself is an issue as for example, 3 players are picked on the All Stars for the full forward line, yet most counties only operate with 2 players up there, even the ones that don't play a sweeper tend to put that 3rd player in the HF line, or between the FF & HF lines, or as an extra midfielder, or sometimes operating in 2 positions depending on which team has the ball at the time.

Pa Horgan is about the only selection this year that I'd disagree with, and I'd be an admirer of his, superb player, but didn't really hit the heights of previous years in 2018, somewhat reflected in the fact Harnedy was Cork's best forward this year and got a deserved all star. Limerick's Tom Morrissey probably the unlucky one to lose out, that's the only difference to the team the Sunday Game panel picked for their team of the year.

The Brian Whelahan one is a more appropriate example.

You can't criticise the All Stars for this and also criticise them for shoehorning players in out of position. Let's assume you want the All Stars to be the best players in each position.

Young Hurler of the Year is, let's assume, a centre forward. But so is, hands down, the best player of the game that season, who gets the All Star as centre forward. The Young Hurler of the Year is not going to get an All Star.

Let's assume the runner up for Young Hurler of the Year is a left half back. Let's assume there are no other quality left half backs. He will get into the All Stars.

Being the best young player does not mean you are the best in your position; conversely, you can be the best in your position without being the best young player of the season overall.

None of that is a logical problem.

Leinster - Ballyhale won in KK at the weekend, but don't look to be as strong as in previous years. They got a bye to SF & play the winners of Naomh Eanna (Wex) V Camross (Laois)- its probably safer for everyone's physical well being that Camross get beaten.
Ballyboden (Dub) V Clonkill (WM) & Coolderry (Offaly) V Mt Leinster Rangers (Carlow) are the other 2 QF's, all 3 of those are on Sunday.

hard to pick a winner in the Ballygunner game.
fancy Naomh Eanna, Ballyboden and it's a toss up in the Coolderry vs MLR game.

Kilmacud have to be taken seriously as well now by default. Leinster shaping up nicely.

If i had to pick a side for the Tom Moore right now......Na Parsiagh.

Ballygunner have some experience but I feel NP are way ahead of everyone else but they still have Limerick to worry about

Ballygunner have also flattered to deceive at Munster level, though they have gotten a bit closer in recent years. They get Midleton in a QF (Imokilly are a divisional amalgamation and can't play in Munster even if they win in Cork) and then the winners of Clare final play one of those in the SF. Other SF is Tipp V LK, you would think Na Piarsaigh would be favourites to come out of all that, even though they are still at the SF stage in Limerick.

Don't think Ballyhale will be too far away in Leinster if they win in KK first, they are also only at the SF stage. No idea why, as KK were knocked out very early by their standards and the delay is hardly to clear a backlog of football fixtures. St Martins would be favourites in Wexford, Oulart made a very early exit there this year.

He’ll win one more AI or die first before he calls it a day.
I could agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.
