It would have been a lovely goal as well. Lovely pass by Payet. Lovely touch by Germain. Then an awful miss. Payer gone now, amazing how quickly a game can turn.

Agree. A 2nd for Atletico and it will turn into a stroll unfortunately. Marseille just need to get to ht to regroup at 1 down

It isn't that it is over, just difficult to see a way back. Marseille have had a double blow after dominating up until the goal.

I'd have Ocampos flat out taking on the RB. When Marseille play ball they will create chances. Granted I'd rather a Costa/Greizmann at the end of it but in Thauvin, Ocampos and Sanson there is creativity still there. Payet or not

2-0. Not trying to be condescending, but that goal is why. Griezmann, Costa, absolutely lethal. Germain chance nearly hit the corner flag. Atletico defense is sensational, individually and collectively. Marseille like Arsenal, always have mistakes at the back in them. Atletico are simply a level or 2 above every team in this competition. If they had Costa in the CL group stage, they'd be there or thereabouts in winning the CL in the latter stages of it I reckon.

I'm fully aware of the quality of Atletico and that they are a level above not just Marseille but most teams in Europe. The composure and finish was top drawer. I just found it odd to see how easily Marseille were being written off. It made sense at the time as I typed it - maybe not so much now!

It will most likely peter out now and, in doing so, will back up everything Moleman has said throughout this tournament. You don't have to hammer a team to be significantly better.

Very much agree with the sentiment that you don't have to hammer a team to be significantly better than them. Atletico are consistently far better than sides but win by low margins. Nice to see them get 3 tonight though. A top quality side.
