I haven't actually done it myself but if you search Revolut on the Irish in Dubai Facebook group then a lot of people talk about how to do it.

Haven't heard that. Does it work out well? Found that transferring from my UAE account to Revolut and then onto AIB was more expensive than transferring directly from ADCB to AIB.

Open an Australian Wallet on Revolut and Transfer it directly from the Australian Bank Account as Australian Dollars to Revolut. That's what people do here with UAE Dirhams anyway.

You can transfer high amounts. Might be a lot of customer verification procedures sending large amounts if your brother opens up a new Revolut account.

That must have changed in the last few years as I used it for a few grand previously.

I regularly transfer 4 figure sums from sterling to euro with revolut. Their software may put a temporary hold on large transfers until you prove the funds are not from illicit sources.

I think the limit with Revolut is 500e -- even though it says it's a lot more. Figures > 500 never worked for me.
Can you transfer via the online banking?

I know this has been discussed on here but what's the latest best way to transfer money back to Ireland from abroad? My brother is moving home in a few weeks from Australia so is starting to look into it.
I know Transferwise was mentioned before? I'm assuming there is a limit to how much you can put through Revlout?

I'd do this, I didn't need any cash in Canada in September, was there two weeks and didn't use it once. But, for the original question, it doesn't make much difference either way.

Just use your card you can include tips with it. You'll get charged a few dollars for atm withdrawls on every bank machine

When withdrawing, if the bank offers you a conversion rate, don't accept it. I had to withdraw cash in Prague and it offered me a conversion rate, which I didn't accept and just took my chances. Saved me a fiver on a €40 transaction which is a serious exchange rate.

If you convert it now and then withdraw it over there, you will do so on the rate now. If you don’t convert and withdraw you will get the rate at the time of withdrawal. Rates will hardly fluctuate that much but just have a look and see how they’ve been going the last while and make your own mind up.

I'm travelling to Canada on Friday for a week, I will predominantly aim to use my revolut card for all transactions but I figure I might need some cash for tips and stuff. if I withdraw from am atm in Canada, should I convert my balance to Canadian Dollars on the app first before withdrawal or just leave as is and withdraw from my euro balance?
Or would I be better off getting some cash before I go?
Any advice appreciated. |

Tried topping up my revolut account from my bank account this morning and I had to enter my IBAN rather than it just topping up immediately. My bank account has been debited and it said it would tarnsfer in 1-2 business days but that's not right. It should top up immediately.
Anyone having top up issues with revolut today? EDIT: Problem solved. Revolut was still linked to my old bank card which expired after 60 days once the new one was issued.
