Federer gave Nadal a good beating last night in Indian Wells.
He plays a much more aggressive game against Nadal than he used to. This is the first time he has beaten Nadal 3 times in a row. Nadal still leads 23 to 13. Hard to know if Federer has found the answer to beating Nadal regularly (pity he hasn't played this way all the time), or is Nadal's power on the wane. Djokovic and Sir Andy also lost, those two look like anyone can beat them nowadays. |

It really has been a crazy start to the year. 35 Year old Federer has won the two biggest tournaments this year - Aus open and Indian Wells. Next up is the Miami Open and both Novak and Murray are missing it. He could make it 3/3. I would say his beating of Nadal the last 3 times is down to Nadal's power on the wane. He is not the beast he once was. Federer is more aggressive on his backhand now but Nadal in his pomp wouldn't give him the opportunity. Unfortunately they are both getting old. The French Open looks wide open this year. Novak is the fav but his form has been so inconsistent since he won the FO last year. Its not Murrays best surface (and he has been inconsistent this year too) and Federer doesnt have the legs for it. Stan has a great chance or could be some young gun winning it. Hopefully Dimitrov steps up this year as he has all the tools to be a GS champion. |

Fed v Nadal in the Miami open on sky sports 3 now (one of the 9 masters).
It truely is a remarkable year for Federer and Nadal so far. Fed wins in straight sets- that's 4 consecutive wins in a row ever Nadal (first time). If Novak and Murray continue their lack of form then these two could really dominate this year. None of the others (outside Stan) look ready to challenge on a consistent basis. It's a possibility that Fed could make number one end of the year - he would be 36!!! Edited by Zinedine Kilbane 110 - 02 Apr 2017 at 8:15pm |

Murray beaten by Thiem on clay in Barcelona.
Very poor start to the year by Murray and Djokovic, looks like Thiem/Krygois/Goffin/Zverev are stepping up and will take on the Big 4. Raonic/Cilic/Berdych all past their sell by dates now. Stan and Nishikori still can do it on a good day. |

That's not true kid The traditional big 4 have won ALL the big tournaments this year. Fed 3 Nadal 1 Murray and Djok are on some serious loss of form but these new kids aren't winning anything of note.... yet! |

Nadal also won at Barcelona so this year Fed has won all the big fast court tournaments and Nadal the clay. Generation useless the new breed of tennis players. John McEnroe reckons all the top 30 players make so much money now they don't have the hunger to make it top 5... he particularly pointed out the French men who make loads on Endorsements but don't really push on after initial promise. Nadal is a serious shout for the French open. I can only see 3 men beating him - Djok, Murray and Stinamal and none of them are in form. |

nadal absolutely pummelling djokovic here. Tennis from the gods. Nadal at his very best. Even Greg Rusedski just said Nadal is playing as well as he ever has. So it might be timely to bump a couple of quotes from the Australian open at the end of January, when I said he was playing very close to his peak levels. Got accused of being completely wrong, having a short term view, and talking sh*te. Here we are in May and since the below exchanges, Nadal reached the final of Oz, nearly won it, and since then he has made a couple of finals in big events, and now he is hoovering up every title on clay, no one can get near him, his tennis is sublime, and he's red hot favourite to win the French Open.

Got centre court tickets for Wimbledon for the Monday of the second week in July, at least in guaranteed some tennis this time with the roof!
Did ya see that shot from Cuevas v Zverev yesterday? Never seen a shot like it in my life, incredible! Rafa about to beat Djokovic in Madrid as well, I think we are really starting to see the decline of Novak in recent months. Edited by Sono - 13 May 2017 at 4:48pm |

Will this French Open (or 2017 as a whole) see a changing of the guard?
Has to happen sometime. Murray/Djokovic in poor form, both have won majors/Masters etc, trucks full of money, but do they still have the Rafa/Roger motivation? Can't see Murray or Djokovic winning a Grand Slam in 5 years time at the age of 35 (like Fed did as this years Aus Open). Fed skipping Roland Garros to prepare for Wimbledon. Rafa has played a lot of tennis this year already, is he giving it all now, knowing he won't stand much of a chance in Wimbledon/Flushing Meadow? Does Djokovic think he doesn't stand a chance of catching the great one on 18 majors? Goffin/Thiem/Zverev/Krygios......it is time for these guys to stand up and be counted at the majors. Whatever about the men's game, anyone of top 16 (and a few beyond) could win this years women's La Coupe des Mousquestaires. |

The decline of Djokovic has always seemed strange like there's something more to it that we'll probably never find out about.
The combination of the gruelling way he plays the game leading to more injuries, hitting 30 and now being a father seems to be catching up with Murray. Federer should have played Roland Garros. Although clay doesn't suit his game it could be such a crazy open tournament he might still have won it.

Who are yer picks for the French lads? Must have a bet on both. Nadal for the mens is it?
Just on the post above, I've seen Krygios a good few times. Would be shocked if he ever won a major. Talented but about as soft mentally as I've ever seen in a top sportsperson. I was watching some of the clay court tennis during the week, in rome i think, and spotted Camilia Giorgi. She is outrageously good looking Most of the snaps on google images don't do her justice imo |

I think the rise and decline of a lot of professional tennis players is something nobody will ever find out about!! All the more surprising what happened to Sharapova at the time, that was one that just slipped through the net I'm guessing.

Barbara is still up there. I think it's the look in her eyes and the Austrian accent.

There really are so many top women in womens tennis down the years
I've always loved Annabel Croft. That posh accent, the whole lot Eugenie is probably the top ranked at the moment though. Then there's the sister!! |

I agree about Annabel. Camilia Giorgi has a look of her and could almost be her daughter.
Idea for a betting scam ; Eugenie get's her sis to play a match instead of her. Everyone lumps on her opponent. No wait, as two former policewomen they'd never agree to it. Anke Huber distracting everyone from the tennis again. |

Surely that would make them easier to corrupt! Were they really ACAB before they went professional at tennis? Very unusual in a s port where you have to make it so young, where are they from?
