I'm really trying to be positive but it's giving me that sick feeling in my stomach...

If he does defect, do you think we should consider no longer calling up Irish players born in England?

I personally think we always need our diaspora but it's really starting to bite us in the backside.

No not at all. There are thousands of Irish out there born in England who would give anything to play for Ireland. I’ve friends born in Birmingham who would never play for England, even the suggestion is an insult LOL

Don't be ridiculous. Why on earth would we even consider doing that?

I agree, so how do we determine those who are serious and those who aren't?

On their first call up to the underage set up they have to name 5 Wolfe Tones song. Make or break.

Can they sing the 12 days of Paul McGrath? It's the acid test on the away trips... Dead

I would well believe that this is a result of pressure from within West Ham and from the English FA

The scout does say that Rice is an eejit for even listening to these guys. He perhaps hasn't fully thought through how it would look if he jumped from one senior team to another (even West Ham and England fans making this point on Twitter, saying it would look pretty bad). It's not as if he had drifted out of the Ireland team and O'Neill had lost interest in him.....this would be a guy jumping ship when the first country actively want him to keep on playing for them.

I seen 38 new posts beside the thread title and feared the worst. Cry

Absolutely sick over it. Our chances of not finishing bottom weren't great before this news but unless the squad batons down the hatches and is somehow galvanised, I think our chances are truly sunk.

Even if Rice declares afterwards, it's a hammer blow for our Nations League prospects and we're more likely going to rely solely on the the qualifiers next year. Nice to have an option of qualification (however unlikely) through the nations league. He could've been a useful shield to counteract Wales and Denmark's main threats through the middle.

So disheartening, but predictable sadly.

Why wasn't he capped in the last 10 min in the easy win against Moldova in the Aviva last October?

Too late. He should have been capped as a toddler.
